Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon

Does anyone know what kind of setup the guitarist of Pink Floyd used on the Dark Side of the Moon? What effects did he use and what kind of guitar/amp combinations. After all these years the sound he got still sounds absolutely spectacular.
I love effects..eff..ects..e...f...t..sss

My understanding is that he used Strats & Teles, thru Fender amps. Don't take that as gospel though; I'm not sure of it.

Binson Echorec tape delay, Electric Mistress Flanger, MXR Phase 90, ADT-Automatic Double Tracking device-(a device that was built by Abbey Road Studios for four lads from Liverpool called The Beatles), two Dallas-Arbiter Fuzzface pedals, Orange treble booster, Yamaha RA-200 rotating speakers, Crybaby Wah, HiWatt 100 heads and sometimes a Fender Twin Reverb, heavy Herco picks, several custom Stratocasters. He also used an EMS Synthi guitar synthesizer on the song "Time".

Any more questions :freak:

SteveRB-

Nice, nice lista swag!

Some of my stash:

*'84 Alvarez-Yairi DY-51 dreadnaught with western red cedar top and killer figured "burled" mahogany sides, back, and hs overlay (strung with 14's)

*'87 Ithaca Guitar Works "super Strat" (made by Eric Aceto, now with Ithaca Stringed Instruments) with birdseye-maple neck, compound-radius Brazillian rosewood fb, EMG 85-SA-SA with EXP and SPC controls (11's)

*'96 Gibson Les Paul Classic Premium Plus, cherry sunburst (11's)

*'97 Gibson Les Paul "Gem" (Ruby-stain!) with "soapbar" P-90's (set-up for open-D, mixed-gauges starting with a 12 or 13)

*'67 bf Fender Pro Reverb (needs to be rescussitated, also has half-assed baffle board and crappy speakers) Sounds sooo vintagey sparkly swirly shimmery when clean, mean and toothsome when cranked!

*Carvin Vintage 33 1x12" reverb combo

*Danelectro Nifty Fifty (don't laugh, serves admirably as a "stereo-sattelite" for effects, for now)

*Lexicon Vortex (too cool, sounds sooo good and analog-like!)

*Groove Tubes Speaker Emulator (early, first-version model)

*Johnson J-Station with foot controller (makes a great headphone/practice-amp.)

And other flotsom and jetsom kicking around or gathering dust! -k

Ask yourself- What Would Ren and Stimpy Do?

Hello there,

check out the Live at Pompeii video from 1972. It's basically footage of Pink Floyd writing & recording Dark Side and performing songs from previous albums among the ruins. It's out of print, but a DVD release is supposed to happen soon.

Just finished a research paper on roger waters and learned that live at pompeii wasnt really live. It was the band "performing" in front of a backdrop set up to look like the ruins...

Interesting. I never heard that one before. I just checked Saucerful of Secrets , and no mention of Pompeii was found. I also did a Google and couldn't find any reference to the realness of the background. I haven't seen it in years, but I could have sworn that it wasn't a set. I wouldn't doubt it from this band though, ever since the Wizard of Oz thing surfaced. Do you have any links on the subject?

I once read some review of guitarists which said Gilmour was "no one's idea of a lead guitarist". IMO he was one of the best lead players of that era! Never shy about taking a 5-minute solo, and always able to make it sing.

Yeah, mark_dog, Gilmour uses EMGs now- but, I don't think there even were EMGs when they recorded Dark Side'... -k

That's right, EMG started in '81 if I recall with Gilmore onboard as an early endorser. The wall was standard Strats, Teles and a LP on the solo for comfortably numb. For the tour, he used the EMGs.
I really don't know what to put here.
