whitefang
I used to joke about these guitars. How I would spend hours jamming in the Sears store on one of the few on display that had all six strings. Frankly, I thought they had disappeared from the market by the end of the '60's! But, while waiting for a perscription at the local Walgreen's, I was thumbing through a copy of Guitar World and saw an ad where one of the assholes from KISS was endorsing Silvertone guitars! After I enter this post, I'm going to try to find the website and see what it's all about. But, is anyone out there aware of these things? And is there any connection to the Silvertones of old? Whitefang I started out with NOTHING...and I still have most of it left!
Guitar Geezer
In Name only! Someone snagged the name, which apparantly sears let go. Did a search on e-bay looking to see what my old 68 12 string might be worth and found a gazillion hits for the new guitars. Go Figure! Oh yeah, still have a black silvertone electric with built in amp case. Lynn G

The Dani name was re-released on new versions of the old guitars. I don't know if they're releasing any Silvertone equivalents, or if the name is owned by another party. It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman Soundclick fntstcsnd
whitefang
Well, I found the website, but there's no link to it's history. However, under the Silvertone name on said site is the claim, "Rockin' since 1949". I was under the impression that Harmony built their line, but I've also noticed the headstock on Dano's is identical to the headstock used on a lot of the old Silvertone basses. Hmmmm... fantasticsound
They may have had Harmony build some models. Danelectro was a Sears brand name. Many guitar builders back then built instruments for store brands and what not. But the famous Silvertones, the ones with the amp-in-the-instrument-case models were identical to Danelectro's own models. Just a different name. {edit} I found a website depicting a 1960 Harmony built, Silvertone guitar. Here's a pic from the site. http://www.angelfire.com/trek/hillmans3/silv1fh4.jpg It's easiest to find me on Facebook.
