Caevan O’Shite
Hmmmnn... is this '97 Custom Plus so much different sounding and playing than the Standard? Have you played it? If I were you, and I felt that I really wanted another Les Paul, I'd look for a model with P-90's (the "soapbar" pickips) (these rule!) or the "mini" humbuckers, and maybe a different bridge like a '54-style stoptail or a Bigsby. Or, I'd get a really good Telecaster. Or even one of those Strata-whatchamahoogies! What you should get is a Gretsch Jet Firebird* or Elliot Easton model, put T.V. Jones Filter 'Trons in it, and string it with DR Pure Blues pure nickel-wrap "12's" with the wound 3rd! (Oh, man, there was an E.E. in a dark, dark green- almost black- with all gold hardware, including a Bigsby, in a local "mall" music store (the more "piano, organ, and marching band" type); and I wish I had bought it before someone else did!) But, if you really like this guitar, then by all means, go for it! -k P.S.- I figured it would be too obvious to suggest a Gretsch "Malcolm Young" model! -k Ask yourself- What Would Ren and Stimpy Do? ~ Caevan James-Michael Miller-O'Shite ~ _ ___ _ Leprechaun, Esquire _ ___ _
James-Italy
Stop Kevin! You keep namin'em, and I'm gonna keep buyin'em. Just Stop Already! Yeah, you're right though- the Custom is not really that different than my Standard. The sound isn't the same, but it's not as diverse as say the ES-335 and the LP Standard. Details: \'97 Custom Plus 2001 LP Standard Same pups (409R/498T) but with the Ebony/Pearl block fretboard and the figured Maple top. I was thinking though that I can always move the Gold hardware to the Standard (think you told me how great Wine Red and gold hardware look together!) and turn the Custom into a real custom by playing around with different pups. The '01 LP is so perfect to me that the gold hardware would have to be as good or better as the stock it has now or I wouldn't do it. It sounds too good as it is to screw around just for cosmetic purposes. Actually, I'm pretty lazy so I wouldn't mind keeping one in standard tuning and the other in an alternate tuning. I'm sure it won't just sit around gathering dust and I'll probably end up buying it. I wanted to wait a bit before buying another guitar and was thinking it'd probably be a Tele (I don't even want to try one out cause I know what'll happen).
