Roland GR Series Guitar Synthesizer Users

Does anyone out there know if Roland is coming out with anything new in the GR line, or an upgrade for the VG-8?

I got a GR-1 and a pick-up from a guy that owed me some cash.

I already have a buyer for it and I was gonna get a GR-33 for myself. I heard a rumor that Roland is unvieling something new to compete with the Line 6 modeling guitar. I would hate to buy the GR-33 if some newer technolgy is imminent.

Any info would be appreciated.

Jotown:)

The GR-33 is a guitar synth, the VG-8 an VG-88 are modeling thingies. I have a GR-33 and I like it a lot. I've been using to gig lately too. The VG series are like the expensive versions of The POD and I hope they're better because they sure cost more. The technology of the VG series is different anyway. You don't need a special pickup for a POD.

To answer your original question:

I don't know! :(

I have a VG 88 at my studio. I also have a Pod. Line 6 has a new "modeling guitar" called a Variax. http://www.line6.com/Variax/index.html

I just recieved a link today for an new box by Roland. It's called a GI-20. http://namm.harmony-central.com/WNAMM03/Content/Roland/PR/GI-20.html I think it was just announced this weekend. As I said in my previous post. The VG-88 and the GR-33 are a couple of years old, and I had heard that Roland was rolling something to compete with the Variax.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm on the VG users' list [see http://vg-8.com] and we are all EXCITED about the V2 upgrade to Roland's VG88--mainly because the upgrade now allows for programmers to make software for REAL TIME EDITING--way better than stooping over your floor box, scrolling through scads of settings.

Roland is being really nice about this upgrade, too: you ship it to them, they install it, and they ship it back [you pay only 1-way shipping and no upgrade fee]. They also allowed the upgrade files to be shared among users, so that those who couldn't wait and had the nerve to try upgrading on their own could go ahead. Some of them fried their V systems, though, and had to send them in for repair anyway. Best to take the free upgrade offer, seems to me. My only prob is, I can't decide when to ship my V because I don't want to do without it!

Ralph Benchetrit has written some real-time editing software with a beautiful, easy interface. Members of the list can download his latest version. I haven't tried it yet, since I haven't upgraded, but I am on the users' list, and reports are excellent. I can hardly wait.

I have a v2 VG-88 (upgraded myself) and the VEditor software, and all I can say is... mmm, nice. ;)

The new amp sims are really lively, lots of nice airy feel to them. They're the best amp sims I've heard. The editing software is just fantastic too. If you have a VG-88 you really have to get the upgrade; it's a huge improvement to a great unit.

Squeeze the day!
