Your friend is foolish and arrogant. Guitarists in general are stuck in a time warp and too blind to see that there are much-improved guitars available that sound and play a hell of a lot better than Les Pauls.

Play your Ibanez and be happy.

Ibanezes are great guitars. Guess it just matters what you're after. Ignore the snobs. Play what you want, keep at it. Don't listen to anyone unless they've been paying their dues a long time, and even then, weigh what they say carefully. Remember, it's all a matter of personal taste.

Hi!

In defense of LPs - they're great guitars, but they are what they are. (I think they're overpriced, too.)

An LP ain't a Strat, and neither one is a PRS. There's good ones and bad ones of most every make - play what you like. I have had some real nice guitars, but I've played the hell outta some El Cheapos, too.

Enjoy your Ibanez! Nothing wrong with it at all.

I'd say listen to everyone, then try what they suggest. If you don't like it, you've lost nothing but a little time. You can learn a lot from a dummy. :D

Yeah, LPs aren't all that and a bag of chips. I don't even like chips. So you know that I don't like LPs.

I like most Strats, most Ibanez's, and most other guitars but LPs, mostly because it's the guitar to have nowadays. I like my Washburn bass, cause it's mine and I've never seen anyone else with one. So, screw what your friends think and have a good time. And welcome to the forum!

Back to guitars!

Welcome to the forum and ignore the LP worshippers.

LP's are a good guitar, so are Ibanez (I had a RG270 H-H that was real sweet), Fender, Gibson, Hamer, ........, etc. There's probably at least a dozen that are just as "good". For me personally, I've never been able to get excited about a Strat, but that's just me. I did recently play a Samick Tele clone. That was pretty nice, especially for $275 at a dealer's shop.

Play what you like, like what you play.

Hang in there, Dave.

Gotta' geetar... got the amp. There must be SOMEthing else I... "need".

I love it when some uninformed clown tells me what type of guitar I should be playing. LP's are indeed nice guitars but I doubt I'll have one in my arsenal anytime soon. They are just too big and bulky for me and the necks are a little slow in my hands. Screw anyone who has the audacity to tell you what your preferences should be. I happen to love my Ibanez guitars. I wouldn't trade them for the best LP in existence.

Reach out and grab a clue.

LP's are certainly good guitars, in fact they're among the best. But I owned an Ibanez Artist that I would rate even higher than the LP I currently own, and higher than any I've played. I got rid of it on a drunken night just prior to shipping off to Marine Corps boot camp way back when... one of the few things I really regret... (losing the guitar, NOT joining the Marines!!)

Ibanez has been doing it right for a long time now, and they make a wide variety of guitars and basses. I own an Ibanez 5 string bass as well, and as little as I play bass these days, it still is a great axe.

You can't go wrong even with the mid-range Ibanez models, and they are certainly cheaper than Gibsons.

The reality is though, as stated above, several times over, you have to play what you feel good playing... there are plenty of threads on the subject here...

I'm definitely an LP-lover but I would never look down on other guitars or force LP down someone's throat. It's good to have an open mind but you gotta make your own decisions.

The media had nothing to do with why I like LPs. Unless by "media" you mean vinyl records which in that case it's true because I heard the LP sound from bands' albums that used them! :D

Welcome! It sounds like the folks here will be more helpful than your friends so ask away.

I've had my LP Custom for over 20 years now and have loved every minute of it. I just bought an Ibanez GAX-75 a few months back, and after I got rid of the drop-D tuner (it was throwing off the intonation), having the frets shaved down and properly set up (the factory set up was crap), I think I have to say it plays better than my LP! The Ibanez is also about 100 lbs. lighter!

You've got the best guitar

You've got the best amp

I love the sound of LP's.But the price and the weight of the things kill me.Try playin one for a 4 hour show.I have owned an LP and several Ibanez,(Fender man now),The Ibanezs got alot more playin time than the LP,you can get good sounds from Ibanez guitars and you don't need a back brace after a gig!I sold all my Ibanez and Gibson and Epiphone guitars over the last several years and play Fender exclusively now. They fit my hands ,ear and taste best.Bottom line play what you like, find your sound and go with it.Oh yeah and welcome to the forum.

It's kinda like asking if you prefer Chevrolet to Cadillac.

Most people would tell you a Caddy is a more prestigious car than a Chevy. The question is, what do you want out of your vehicle?

Gibson is definitely a Caddy (although most of us feel they're not altogether consistant in quality). Most Ibanez guitars are definitely Chevy's. The fact remains, it's up to your needs and desires which sounds and plays better, cause that's what matters in playing guitar. ;)

Hi there! Welcome to the beautiful world of guitar playing. AND this forum!

Me? I'd take the LP over the Ibanez. Why? The LP "fits" me better. The Ibanez? Hey, I think they're great! Their acoustics are really good, too. Gotta have an open mind with these things. You might have too big a hand for a strat, or too small a hand for and SG. Or SOMEthing. And since YOU'RE buying the guitar, ignore your friends!
