Mine too. Guitar World is pretty good too. They have sheet music in them every month, but GP doesn't. If you don't bother to learn the music, they're very similar.

I think I like GP, BUT I can never find a copy of it. Can you subscribe (to read it) online?

Dave

P.S. I agree, Guitar World is pretty good to, but I like the "ShootOuts" that Guitar Player runs, I just never get to read them 'cause I can't find the magazine!

Bluestrat, where do you get yours?

Gotta' geetar... got the amp. There must be SOMEthing else I... "need".

Guitar Player is the best that I have come across. I've been a subscriber since the early '90s and have most issues dating to about '83. It's fun to go back and look at some of the groundbreaking new gear from almost 20 years ago.

Dave, why not just go here and sign up? I'm sure they would deliver to NC.

I know this might sound elitist, but if its got TABS in it, I skip to the next mag. I don't think theres a purely electric guitar mag I care for. Most are a reflection of the radio, rather than what I want to read about. If you want to read about Sonny Landreth, Ry Cooder, or James Blood Ulmer....forget the geetar mags.

Actually, there are notational lessons in every issue of GP & most have complete songs, though these may not be the current hits by this year's rock stars.

My Uncle got me a subscription for christmas one year, and I've kept it up. I used to get Guitar (for the practicing musician) but canceled that once I started getting GP. Books a Million doesn't have GP?!? I think that Howren music used to have a magazine section too.

I used to get Acoustic Guitar magazine too. I've got about 6 years of guitar mags around here! :)

Hey Bluestrat,

Thanks for the info (everyone else too) about Guitar Player. I didn't know Howren Music had magazines, I didn't even think of Books-A-Million and yes (Paul) I know I can subscribe, but I like to buy a few issues (in a row) first and I haven't been able to find it!

The problem is that I need to find it someplace I'll be routinely. I just found it yesterday at WalMart in Rock Hill (SC), were I work. Funny the WalMart in Gastonia does NOT have it. Strange .....

Thanks again for the info, Dave.

Geenard,

Maybe so, but I must have mistaken it for a hog holler, cause I bought GP in that music shop (CD's, tapes, drums, sheet music, and oh yeah... guitars and amps [Crate])that I was playing the Yamahas and Washburns in (see TennisBum posting re: the Pacifica), not WalMart. I forgot, I had checked that WalMart over by the collards, and they don't carry GP either.

Well,GP will go in my stocking,so I can't be stopped from enjoying one of my Christmas presents, can I? :D

It's gotta be Guitar Player. I was lucky enough to get to read the very first issue. It was sent as a sample to my High School library and all of us in garage bands at the time just read and re-read it till it finally disappeared. I've been a reader and, when I could afford it, a subscriber ever since. I've gotta say though if some of these modern mags with really great transcriptions were around when I was starting to play (1965) I'd probably be a MUCH MUCH better reader today. :)

Jamie

But never fear, you're safe with me... Well maybe. - Les
