standard22
I recently bought a Peavey Classic 50 2x12. I love the amp's nice clean tube tone. I like the amp distortion's nice little british tone, I mean, I go for the whole Oasis thing and all but...I WANT THICKNESS ON OCCASION!!! I was thinking perhaps a Mesa V Twin or a Line 6 Distortion modeler, maybe a Yamaha DG stomp. I have a digitech RP300 I used with my old Peavey Bandit that I loved and now miss, but the Digitech and the Classic just don't seem to like each other too much. What do you guys think? Wickerman
Mesa/Boogie Eng V-1 Bottle Rocket Good clean boost can fatten up a dirty channel Cheap way is a Boss DS-1 with the distortion rather low, volume cranked... Banzai Cold Fusion Guyatone (can't remember who makes it but I think it's guyatone) Metal Monster
patrick_dont_fret
Depending on yer musical choices, you might check out the Boss Overdrive made for bass. Great tone controls, too.
sbrock1san.rr.com
I have a Peavey Classic 50 (2x12) I use a Boss SD-1 SuperOverdrive or Boss Blues Driver pedals with it. Sounds real good to me. I like the Blues Driver better but it colors the sound and the SuperOverdrive imparts less character and might be a better all-around choice. There are lots of great overdrive pedals and distortion pedals. The Barber Direct Drive has a lot of buzz right now. Fulltone FullDrive, Ibanez Tubescreamers, Marshall Guvnor, Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive, Guyatone OD-2, etc. The list is endless.
Dave da Dude
I agree about the EFX pedals thing. You can probably get what you want with one of the thousands of pedals. BUT, also strings might help. I read somewhere (on this forum?) that the Ventures used heavy gage (.014 hi 'E') strings to get their sound. You could (if you have two guitars) string one light and one heavy. Just a thought, Dave Gotta' geetar... got the amp. There must be SOMEthing else I... "need". I concur on the Tri-O.D. I'd almost forgotten I had one because I've been going straight into the amp lately (I get on these weird kicks sometimes ). I'm gonna have to find mine and play with it tonight. It's a very versatile box and the Boogie and Marshall settings both get very "thick." Do they still make these things? None more black.
