Mesa Mark II????

Salty Tonk

Recommended Posts

I've been in the market for a new tube amp,I've been leaning towards a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.A friend of mine has music store and he's got this Mesa/Boogie Mark II ,tweed,1x12 combo, used for about $550.I haven't had a chance to play it yet as he lives about 200 miles from here. But all the other boogies I've played on have been outstanding amps.Should I spend roughly the same money for a new Fender w/warranty from Musicians Friend.Or should I go with a very babied(never gigged)classic Mesa,The II has been out of production for awhile.I know what the smart thing to do is but what would ya'll do?

i've got a mark II that i gig with. i really like it a lot. the tone is outstanding ( i put an old ElectroVoice 12" SRO spkr in there) the weight is up there however, if that is a consideration. have never played a hot rod deluxe, but i have used the fender twin reissue, which is nice, but no comparision to the boogie. i ran into someone a few weeks ago that used to work at boogie, and he said the mark IIs are relatively rare and sought after these days. that price sounds good to me, i think. i believe i saw one similar to mine (eq, reverb, wood cab, rattan grill cloth) used somewhere for about 800.00. If you end up buying it, and need the manual, schematics, etc., let me know, although i think most of that stuff is at the boogie site. hope this helped
Those who can,do. Those who cannot, usually run the monitor mix.

I started on a Mark IIB and traded for a Mark III and then a Mark IV. The Mark II's sound outstanding, only thing they're missing that I'd really want is the whole amp sound line out that the IV's have. But hey, just throw a mic on it.

They are fantastic amps that will smoke the Fenders, go for it!

'Been using a HRD for several years in smaller clubs...good little amp. It's very penetrating...cuts through a mix easily without being overly bright. Also has a good usable drive channel. Sometimes I use a power soak with it so I can get into the power section at a lower volume. It's pretty loud. I think you'd have a good amp with either choice.
