I'm also looking at a a Galveston guitar, which is about 1/2 as much, in a Strat type style. I'm just wondering if Galveston is halfway decent, or is it pure crap? I know it all boils down to how well I like it, you get what'cha pay for, etc. I'd rather get the Epi, but none of the music stores around me have the one I'm looking at, so I'll have to buy it online. The Galv. seems OK, nice and light, but I'm unsure about the long term quality. Right now I have a '74 Gibson LP Custom that weighs about 170 lbs, and gets heavier the longer I play it! I love everything about the LP except the weight--I'm just looking for something lighter that plays as nicely. Any suggestions?I am getting ready to buy myself a Steinberger after a lot of research. They have come a long way since the original models that were just rectangular in shape. They now have beautiful wood shaped Strat type bodies and if you are worried about the weight of other guitars these are light and balanced. You will have to get used to the fact that they do not have a head stock and you have to buy special double ball end strings. The thing I like is once you tune them they basically don't need to be tuned again until you change strings. I now own a Tokai Tele and an Ibanez Strat and I like them both because they have a differant feel as well as sound but I'm looking into the Steinberger to give me little more flexibility for recording. I am "logged" down with a '72 Gibson LP Custom myself. I ended up getting a Carvin SC-90 as a "replacement". Of course it's not a replacement, but is a fine guitar and am very happy with her. She does satisfy my "I want something a little different but not too different" desire - the SC90 has more top end than my LPC. With a rounded body and lighter weight, it ain't no log! aka riffing Double Post music: Strip Down http://rimspeed.com http://loadedtheband.com
TuskBuffer
Well, I got the Ibanez GAX-75, and it IS a "burger" compared to my Les Paul. On the plus side, I can do pretty much anything I want to it (my LP is a 20th Anniv. edition, and I want to keep it as original as possible). First, I'll get it professionally set up, and then put a Mammoth Ivory nut on it. I haven't made a nut before, but I'd like to start making them in addition to my picks. I'll probably also have the frets filed down, because I notice the pitch changes way to much when I press too hard--really annoying. Maybe I'll get used to it, but hopefully I'll get it fixed before I do. Even so, it is a pretty nice playing guitar. It's got the "Drop D" tuner, so I'll have to figure out how to use it effectively. I don't know any songs that use the alternate tuning, so any help there would be appreciated. Maybe I'll even start a new thread for that eventually. Thanks all!
