Myles 111 / Road King Mesa Boogie

Hello Myles and I hope you get to read this

I am a recent owner of a new Mesa Boogie Road King.

My other amp is a fender Hot Rod deluxe.

These are both brand new, 2002.

I purchased the hot rod for its price/performance ratio.

I purchased the Road king for its versaility or so I was told. I Have a home studio digital setup with some fine gear including a tl audio M3 tubetracker 8 channel board. This has all tubes in it so I felt you might like to comment on that board.

My question is, would I be wise to retube the Road King, or are the stock tubes sufficient for someone who pursues tonal greatness. I was hoping for a close to ac 30 sound from the Road King. I cant seem to find that but I'm not surprized. Either I'm just not finding it or it doesnt exist. I like the distorted sound of the black crowes, or tragically hip. I rarely use clean. I have two groove tubes new, which I purchased for a nomad 55 and I never used. They are GT 3l34 ls made in california and initial on it 'DDK" whoever that chap is.

May I use these in my Road King safely? WIll I see an improvement. If I were to upgrade in tube quality, what should I use. If I were to send my amp to you, could you 'tweak' it to maximize its potential.

I am also now thinking of purchasing a new ac 30/purple tolex (cause I like purple). I love that chimey sound. THere is 3300.00 canadian dollars for a one trick pony. What else can I do. In my situation I dont have the luxury of 'cranking' an amp up, so maybe I can attenuate it with thd powerbrake or marshall, which do you prefer and why?

Im still learning about the road king but thus far Im just not 'feeling' or hearing the things I feel I want to. Im a wee bit disappointed, but that could be my own ignorance at work.

Thanks for any help you will so kindly offer.
