Anybody ever replace a neck with a Warmoth?

Can anyone tell me how difficult it is? I mean, it should just line up if I get the right heel size, right? A couple of hole to the right depth ... Or am I over-simplifing? I'm handy, but I wouldn't want to screw up my baby.
I really don't know what to put here.

As long as it's the correct replacement neck (ie Fender for Fender, etc.) It should fit right in. If anything, you;d like it a bit snug, as it's better to have it too large than too small.

Warmoth necks usually come with no holes. So place the neck in the joint, stick something that leaves a mark thru the holes in the back of the body. Then drill some starter holes. I would start fairly small with the holes and not very deep. Let the screws they provide you grab as much wood as possible. And be careful not to srip the screws.

Also, be careful with that screwdriver, you sure don't want it to slip of the screw and leave a gouge in your baby.

But, yes, most Warmoth necks are designed to fit in Fender and Fender type neck joints with 25.5" scales.

Call em up and they'll walk you through the scale business and all to make sure you're getting the correct neck for your body.

When you drill neck screw holes, try and find a drill press so the holes will go straight in all the same. I usually figure the depth and put a piece of tape around the bit so I can see exactly where to stop drilling. Too deep would be a really really bad thing.

Warmoth make excellant necks by the way.

One word of caution before drilling the screw holes into the neck. Before you start drilling you want to put strings on the guitar attach them to the tuners on the neck and lightly attach the neck to the guitar temporarily with a well padded clamp. You need to make sure that the guitar strings are aligned properly along the length of the neck and not canted to one side. You can use the High and Low E strings as a guide.

Also, as one respondent indicated it could be a real bummer if you drill the holes too deeply. It would be disastrous if you drilled a hole and it exited on the fretboard - YUCK!! So be careful. Also, if you have a beveled joint on your guitar body, you need to make sure that your screws are not too long where they could exit the fretboard.

They do sell booklets on how to assemble bolt on neck style guitars which probably would be worth looking into. First check with Warmouth and their website to see if they have instructions on mounting a neck - I would guess that they do.

Good Luck and Go Slowly.
