philbo_Tangent
I have a '70s Ovation Custom Balladeer 12 string that I just love. The problem is that the plastic knobs on the machine heads are slowly turning back into whatever stuff they were made of. I've been using industrial-grade epoxy to glue the pieces back together, but just found one knob that is split and has half of it missing. Bummer! These machine heads are the classical style ones, where the rod that the string winds around lies flat (parallel to the face of the guitar) rather than at a right angle to the headstock. I really would hate to deface the guitar by putting on some off-brand after-market tuners... in my experience, that's almost always a mistake. Any ideas??? Thanks. DC
I've got a Martin with slotted headstock ()-16 N.Y.). I had an unfortunate accident where one of my tuners got bent. When I straightened it, it snapped off. Freaked me out a bit, but what I ended up doing was getting a set of Schaller dobro tuners. After measuring, they turned out to be a perfect fit. I highly recomend Schallers, they're the best tuners I've ever tried and I've got em on most of my guitars. They stay in tune and last forever. You ought to be able to find some classical or other set that'll match your guitar. Good Luck. -David http://www.garageband.com/artist/MichaelangelosMuse
Gabriel E.
Check out Stewart MacDonald. They might have replacement tuning buttons that you can put on without having to replace the entire tuner.
