Mr. Hegwood
By way of introduction, my name is Gil, and I'm currently the lead guitarist in the Washington, DC-based rock band Ape House. I've been playing semi-pro for about 17 years, and I'm currently using a PRS McCarty Soapbar and a Fender tele through a 1984 JCM 800 2204 head and a 1960AX cab - no effects. I post pretty frequently at the PRS forum (under the name Fig8) and occasionally at the Plexi Palace; I'm looking forward to discussing the finer points of gear and music here, too. Cheers, Gil
Tedster
Welcome, Gil... I'm Tedster (I flipped my handle around as part of the ongoing Pythonesque silliness on Craig's forum). I'm one of the curmudgeons that has taken to posting here. As discussions about "What strings do you use?" or technique debates can dry up from time to time, I tend to make a lot of off topic posts and annoy the locals. But, what the hey. By way of introduction...I've got a couple of American Strats, well, had a couple until my 15 year old daughter sweet-talked one away from me...a Washburn A-20, a Rick 12 and a Guild acoustic. Run 'em (most of 'em anyway) through a Marshall TSL-122 2x12 combo. I do use a couple of effects, generally sparingly. I'm an old fart (45) so, I generally like old fart music, and play in a cover band as such. Welcome to the party! henryrobinett
Welcome Gil. My name's Henry. I'm an older fart than Ted (46) and I like older, fartier music than Ted (jazz). I never post anything on topic and generally wait until a debate has brewed before I post something totally off base and seemingly unrelated to what's being discussed. I'm trying to figure out how someone gets 5 to 6 thousand posts, but I'm desperately trying to get to 500, still 500 shy, so I can go to Disneyland. I play an ES-355 as my main axe. I also have two Strat types, Strat Plus w/Clapton electronics and a Warmoth hybrid, Les Paul Anniversary, Taylor, yada, yada, ya. 10 in all. I must be a very bored individual because I spend way tooo much time, time I don't actually have, on these forums. Welcome! Cowbell
Hey Henry, that wouldn't happen to be a 20th Anniversary Les Paul Custom, would it? I used to have one,but had to sell it....best guitar ever...
henryrobinett
25th anniversary. 25/50. It IS the best guitar I own, but I never play it. It's much heavier than a regular Paul. It's a phenomenal guitar. I think they actually did put the kitchen sink in it. All the best, Henry Robinett
Mr. Hegwood
Thanks for the welcomes. I'm not an old fart yet, but my next birthday (30) will, for better or for worse, send me careering in that direction; I ought to lay in a supply of Ensure and a case of prunes while I can still remember to do so. As far as off-topic discussions are concerned, I usually get drawn into those having to do with politics (I must be the world's only pro-hunting-vegetarian, atheist Republican - but I'm a nice guy, I swear), the middle east (I've lived in both Egypt and Israel), and Formula 1 racing(I was a McLaren Mercedes fan, but I'm more detached now that Mika Hakinen has "gone on sabatical"). Tedster
Henry, I like jazz too. I'm not a disciple, as you are, but I really do enjoy it. If you ever find yourself in KC, look me up, we'll go to the jazz district here (18th and Vine)...maybe to the Mutual Musicians Foundation (an Saturday night all night jazz club where you can sit in if you're so inclined). Ever play one of those Les Pauls with the low impedance pickups? "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"

Gabriel E.
Hi Gil. No imaginative name for me. I'm originally a boring Canadian but have since relocated to the US. I like all forms of music and am constantly confused about what I like to play (right now it's Country/Jazz a la Danny Gatton - before that it was kind of a jazz/metal fusion). I mostly play a hot-rodded '72 Tele and a stock PRS Custom 24 through a '57 Fender Super and into Marshall 2x12 and Carvin 2x12 cabs. The main thing to remember is that I'm always right about any given subject. Welcome. Mr. Hegwood
The main thing to remember is that I'm always right about any given subject. Well I suppose that we'll be in agreement on every subject of any importance, and given the fact that you left Canada behind for the Big Easy, you would seem to have a good track record, so far (I must admit to being an inveterate Canada basher - I was stuck out in the desert with a group of Canadians for a couple of months, and making fun of them just became second nature; they were good sports, though). We're certianly in agreement on Danny Gatton; you can't grow up in the DC/Maryland area without being a huge fan of his (or of Roy Buchanon's). Although my band's style is somewhere between Cheap Trick, the MC5, and Weezer, I always find room for my back catalog of Gatton-inspired bluegrass and country licks

pauldil
Welcome Gil. I'm Paul, 45 (but a very young 45). I like jazz but can't quite play it as well as I want to. But I'm slowly improving! I play an ES-335, an Ibanez GB-10, and an ES-175. I have a Fender Stage Lead II and a Polytone Mini Brute IV (which blew up on me at a gig in 1984 and I've never had repaired ) I think you'll really enjoy this forum. The people are great and I've learned so much in a short time. It's very motivating. Paul

I've noticed that if you're to be a driver in Formula-1, you have to have a cool sounding exotic name: Hakkinen, Montoya, Raikonnen, Coulthard, Fisichella, Sato, Verstappen, Frentzen, Barichello, Villeneuve, Schumacher.. Andretti, Lauda, Fangio.. and of course, "Ayrton Senna". How cool is "Ay-airton Sin-ah"? Not a lot of "Bob Smith"s. This explains why Eddie Irvine is sucking so bad, he has a NASCAR sounding name. Mr. Hegwood
QUOTE]Not a lot of "Bob Smith"s. This explains why Eddie Irvine is sucking so bad, he has a NASCAR sounding name. Very important. You've probably got a point; maybe if he changed his name Fabrizzio or Raol he have an opportunity to move to a better team. Eddie does have one thing going for him, though: he is a serious guitarist. I wonder how Jackie Stewart managed to get so far given his fairly lackluster monkier? I bet it's the "ie." If he'd just been Jack Stewart, he'd probably have been stuck racing on dirt tracks at county fairs.
fantasticsound
Welcome, Mr. Hegwood! I haven't seen quite as interesting an introduction thread in some time. I'm Neil. 35. I've played guitar for 27 years. (Boy am I tired!) I'm a James Taylor, et al. nut, but I also play a lot of rock and roll. I'm a sound engineer by trade.. which is how I've been paid too many times! (Not that there's anything wrong with that!) I only wish I had the $$$ to buy the instruments I really want. (So I'm amongst brothers in arms in more ways than one. ) Again, welcome to the looney bin. It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Chip McDonald
Originally posted by Mr. Hegwood: QUOTE] Eddie does have one thing going for him, though: he is a serious guitarist. F1 Racing magazine always shows those guys playing guitars, like a few months ago Damon Hill and Villeneuve. I wonder what they sound like, since I would think to do what they do (like Villeneuve riding his car backwards at 190+ mph as it self-destructed at Monza last year, then gets out and runs back hoping to get in the T-car for a restart like it was no big deal) requires I would think, somewhat of a lack of imagination? I bet it's the "ie." If he'd just been Jack Stewart, he'd probably have been stuck racing on dirt tracks at county fairs.[/QB] The same applies to fast guitar heroes. You can't be a guitar hero if adding a long E vowel sound to the end of your name doesn't make sense. This is why Jimi, Eddie and Jimmy were known for their playing and Kurt known for his songwriting. This is also why Eric Clapton was "Slowhand" and his contemporary Jeffrey Beck known for his zippy speed. I mean, would "Brian VanHalen", or "Curtis Hendrix" have been as cool? (apologies to Brians and Curtis' everywhere; I have had to to hear - endure - "ha ha, potato chip, ha ha, chocolate chip, ha haha" my whole life, so ) Of course, Davey Gilmour throws a wrench into my scheme. Oh well, I doubt he has much to fear from Mika Hakkinen on guitar, so it matters not at all. Dak Lander: I'll sleep when my mind's buffer isn't quite as overflowing with ... negative, pressing garbage... I slept a lot last night, probably almost 3 hours cumulative. It's funny, you stay up for 3 days that's when the visual disturbances start happening, and your balance does weird things. I hate that; but isn't that what everyone does drugs for? Which is great, because sometimes it's like watching grass grow from a front porch rocking chair. Chip, great job with all the F1 names. I pull for the young guys, Barichello and Montoya. I think we can all agree that Micheal may be the best ever (other than maybe Senna). Don't come down too hard on Eddie Irvine...Jaguar is the last place you'd want to be in F1 right now. And what's wrong with Curtis VanHalen? Curtis Lowe sounds cool doesnt it? And he was the greatest picker to ever play the blues!
