nickel strings v. stainless steel

It very much depends on your guitar. Stainless steel strings have more "cutting power" - and more high end. Nickel strings generally have more of a warmm, rounded sound.

 

One of my guitars is too shrill with stainless strings so I use nickel. Another lacks high end so I use stainless on it instead.

 

If you're playing with a lot of gain/distortion, stainless is usually the way to go.

I am in the nickel camp. The warmth and character of the string's tone suit me better. I play clean bassy jazz tones, and classic rock sounds. I love a lot of sustain and I get it better with nickel. Specifically, Gibson Les Paul Tone Tempered strings.

Fender Bullet Nickle Plated steel is a nice trade off. I just tries some DR blues all Nickle and I really liked them. Boomers(stainless) are nice, but they might be a touch bright for me.
I really don't know what to put here.
