I was wondering if someone can provide me with guidance on my choice for a second guitar.

My tastes are heavily into classic rock, blues, a little country, and some jazz feel. I have a Fender Strat which I love but am looking for another guitar equipped with humbuckers for that extrat power.

I dont like Les Pauls for their uncomfortable weight, body shape and neck. So, I guess im searching for something that feels like a Strat with its diversity, but has the power of a Paul. I have been searching a long time for something that can match this (with a resonable price) but have been unscuccessful. Can anyone recommend anything?

Thank you

Have you considered a Fat Strat? I've got an '85 strat with a split-coil humbucker in it. With the full HB on, it sounds a lot more like a Les Paul than a strat.

My orange-label es335 sounds like it would fit the bill, but I bought it back when they were only $395. They're way too much now.

Maybe an older mongrel? I found a '55 LP Jr with an es330 neck and twin ri PAF's in it about 15 years ago, worthless to collectors but a real sweet ride. The case is still worth more than the guitar. Just a thought.

From what I'm hearing, it sounds like you definitely want at least one humbucker...that's where the "power" comes from (or it's a big part of it anyway). Take a good hard look at Carvin guitars. They make several different models and a bunch of 'em are very "Strat-ish" in look and feel, but they offer some pretty cool pickup/electronics combinations...very versatile. A bonus: they ain't all that expensive either. Good luck!
None more black.

Maybe Double Fat Strat? Tu Seymour-Duncan humbuckers with, 5 way switching (so you can get singlecoil sound)... There is a Hardtail version as well if you don't like tremolo bridge.
If it sounds god, just play the darn thing

Paul Reed Smith guitars seem to fill the updated Les Paul nich very well. They're nicely made and they have a LP flavor but possibly with a slightly better balance tonally.
