Stereo Amps How?

Dave da Dude

Recommended Posts

I'm new to electic guitar (played acoustic for years). Sylver says my Jazz Chorus 55 with a tube amp in stereo would be awesome.

How do I do this? Is it just a 'Y' cable with single end to guitar and each 'Y' to an amp?

Gotta' geetar... got the amp. There must be SOMEthing else I... "need".

A split signal to both amps would give you more of a {dual mono} sound than stereo. If you are using any processing like chorus, delay or reverb that have a stereo output, feed one output to each amp and you will have a true stereo setup.

My "Gig Rig" is all rack stuff and I run stereo in to a 4-10 cab utilizing 2 speakers for each channel. It probably doesn't make that much difference for stage sound, but when the PA is stereo, we mic both sides of the cab, the sound through the house is huge.

An active ABY box would be a better choice since it would allow you to switch between each amp or use both together. Both Pro Co and Morley make good ones. A 'Y' cable would force you to go through both amps all the time. 'Y' cables tend to cause a lot of signal loss too.

Hey Gabriel, thanks for the additional info.

This is the third time or so you've ansered a question for me. In East Tennesse-eze, "'Prectiate it.". By the way, we're picking up a conversion van in Arlington, Texas on the 25th and we're going to stop in and see New Orleans for a WHOLE day!

Any suggestions for what to see in one (very) full evening?

I'm happy to help. Lots of people here help me too so I try to reciprocate.

How late are you staying? A lot of shows here don't get started until 11:00 or midnight.

For food, check out the Gumbo shop at 630 St. Peter St. for gumbo and po boys, Acme Oyster house at 724 Iberville St. if you like raw oysters or Bayona at 430 Dauphine St. if you want a really fantastic, very expensive meal. Or go to Napoleon house on the corner of Charters and St. Louis St. and order a muffelata sandwich (yum!).

Drinking should be done at Napoleon House or at Lafitte's Blacksmith shop on Bourbon St. Avoid Miller, Bud, Coors or any other crap beer and drink local Abita beer, Hurricanes (made with rum, NOT grain alcohol) or Sazeracs. You can get absinthe at a little place on Pirate's alley next to St. Louis Cathedral. Remember to have a designated driver.

For good trad music, go to Preservation Hall on St. Peter St. to listen to old time jazz and ragtime played by old timers who played it in the 30s. Checkpoint Charlie's on the corner of Esplanade and Decatur is a good place to hear local rock/metal and do laundry. El Matador is accross the street and has an eclectic mix of music and is the current "in" spot. The hipsters also hang out at the Shim Sham club on Toulouse St. where retro burlesque is also performed every Sunday night. Snug Harbor on Frenchmen St. is the place to hear modern jazz. Cafe Brasil (also on Frenchmen) has latin music and reggae.

The ultimate N.O. experience is to go to Mid-City Lanes on N. Carrolton Ave. to go bowling, drink and dance to live music from two separate stages. It's usually roots rock or zydeco.

A stroll down Bourbon St. is a requirement but don't get stuck there - it's a tourist trap where locals rarely tread. Look and leave.

Everything I listed is in the French Quarter or right next to it. Have fun!
