GuitarWolf
K, i can play most of the songs i have the tab for up to speed, but theres just some that i cant because my technique sucks, i find myself using one finger per string instead of one finger per fret... anybody know any exercises that i could practice to develop better technique? cincinnatirock
First off, buy a metronome. you don't need to go all out. You can get a decent one for around $15. It may seem tedious at first, but trust me, you will get better a lot faster with one than you will without one. Next do chromatic exercises. Use one finger per fret and concentrate on sound rather than speed. e--------------------------------- B--------------------------------- G-------------------------1-2-3-4- D-----------------1-2-3-4--------- A---------1-2-3-4----------------- E-1-2-3-4------------------------- et cetera This should at least be a start on getting your technique up to snuff. Sylver
You can get a free ware metronome on line. Do a search on it, there are plenty out there. Ummm, you do have a computer, right? I really don't know what to put here.

Fingerstyle_Jim
If you really want to get your technique in gear get the book "Pumping Nylon". It's geared for classical players but any guitarist would benefit from the workouts it has. Some note reading is required though, and by the way, did the computer/head interface hurt? dturner
Hello D-Prime... My advice on technique improvement is really simple, but not always easy to do. PLAY SLOWLY! When learning a new part or song... or doing an exercise like recommended above.... play it as slowly as you have to to play it perfectly cleanly... not matter how slow that is. And if one part of a song or run or phrase is giving you trouble.... just keep going over that part... and over it, and over it. It is hard to do this because you will always want to play it faster than you really can.. but the slop you'll hear is also becoming part of your playing technique. Trust me... if you take any part that is really hard for you to play cleanly and smoothly right now... and begin to rehearse that part in "ultra clean playing" mode, you will see improvement every day. Some days you will pick up the guitar and think "damn why did this seem so hard in the first place". And all these exercises and rehearsal times are cumulative. That's the good part. But you have to pay dem dues like we all do. The metronome idea is great too... and you will develop you own internal metronome over time as well. [bet you can download an upgrade to you head-puter] I am 45 years old, and have played since I was a pup... and I am STILL having to woodshed when learning something new and difficult. Isn't it grand... to know that you will never run of out new stuff to learn? Dennis
