Gabriel E.
I know this came up a couple of weeks ago. Here's the final $$. Now I hope I don't ever hear Jerry Garcia's name again. http://artscanada.cbc.ca/artsNow/index.jsp?label=garcia020509 "You never can vouch for your own consciousness." - Norman Mailer

Mark Zeger
Damn...I got out bid by $10! Oh well, I would have needed to put a Floyd Rose on them anyway. I'm surprised the "Tiger" fetched more the "Wolf". The latter was a more interesting design.
jetboy
the reason the Tiger sold for more is that Garcia played it for most all of his gigs and was his personal favorite, the Wolf was a back up. I once read an article about the Tiger, it was pretty interesting(nore so than his playing). The most interesting thing about it was that is appeared to be relatively indestructible. the guitar tech said that there was virtually no wear on the frets or neck after many hundreds of shows and practice. some dot com millionaire dead head probably got it as the ultimate DH souvenir. surfjunkie
well, as someone mentioned on the original thread, that spawn comics guy paid a fortune for MM's homerun ball that is not much of a piece of history now. if you're a rich deadhead, owning one of those guitars would be pretty great. the axes themselves are hardly jokes. they are works of art. i'm more into SGs myself, but those things are absolutely finely-crafted instruments. as far as my own opinion of the dead's music, i can't get past the fact that they can't sing in tune live. my housemate is a 'head who does a local radio show, and he plays live recordings here all the time. i like jerry's singing voice, but his soloing never really blew me away. bob weir's comping is usually pretty groovy, though. but the idea that the dead practiced is pretty comical. jetboy
Well "practice" was probably not the right terminology. I just meant any time not associated with that night's gig. From the guitar techs interview it was jerry's regular axe, the one he used most of the time both on and off stage. I agree with both points I didn't care for his solo's that much and hated their live singing, but then I stopped following the band in the 70's. the guitars really were nice pieces, lots of detail, inlay and fine woods but their real value is to deadheads that want a piece of their history.
