Tube Amp Theory

I'm no Myles, but I found a document on www.ax84.com that can explain the basic workings of a tube amp, the P1 theory document:

http://www.fna.muohio.edu/ax84/media/ax84_m35.pdf

This is just for the P1 (a single-ended class A amp) so it won't have anything about NFB or a PI, but it has most of what a person should know when trying to wrap their heads around building/modding an amp.

For more info, this URL has links to many other sites with a lot of good info:

Have fun!

Thanks James! I will check it out - probably best to start with a chunk this size.

BTW - right after I posted this question, I was loaned a copy of "The Tube Amp Book," which Groove Tubes carries/puts out. It's AMAZING - a LOT of info, history, great photos, etc. But a lot to absorb, so I appreciate the link! For those interested, the book is just coming out in a new edition, and is or soon will be available from Groove Tubes - there's a good chapter list at their website.

It's a good stepping stone.

Wickerman,

I fell across this post by accident, but I have to say that your suggestion is a GREAT one. That's a super book.

Brian, while you are looking at the bookstores, you might also want to check out Ampage. Wonderful resource for tube afficianados and lots of good help there for DIY. They can be found at Ampage

There are lots of forums and lots of links to projects. Good Luck, Ardeekahn
