Rim
Well, a difference b/w $150 and $700 is $700 should give you all wood (top, back and sides). $150 may get you a wood top but the back and sides are wood laminates. Wood laminates don't vibrate as well as real wood and usually doesn't sound good. Some $700 guitars will also come with electronics built-in so you can plug them into an amp or PA. $700 may also come with prettier "dressings" like bindings, high gloss finish, abalone inlays, etc. When talking acoustic guitar, there is a HUGE difference between one that costs $700 from one that's $150. With $700, you can buy a guitar that you may be happy with for the rest of your life. $150 will make you wish you spent more money on a guitar. More experts can tell you more details like the bracing used and different woods are better than others. Oh, and if someone can tell me, in general, the difference between rosewood back and sides and mahogany back and sides? aka riffing Double Post music: Strip Down http://rimspeed.com http://loadedtheband.com
Gabriel E.
Don't forget attention to detail. The builders of the $700 guitar spent a lot more time making sure all the parts fit together properly, the frets were well dressed, etc. . . Pick up a cheapo guitar and it just looks sloppily made. Rosewood is a little darker sounding than mahogony. "You never can vouch for your own consciousness." - Norman Mailer
