Blues Rigs

I'm just interested in learning about other blues player's setups.

I'm a blues man, and my current setup is a stock 1999 Amer. Standard Strat, and a early 50's Airline 30W tube amp. Very barebones, I know, but the tone is out of this world. I'll be aquiring a vintage twin reverb in about a week, and I hope it's gonna do me right tone-wise.

What do you guys use?

playing the blues, but my blues chops are limited

Scott Henderson on Dog Party and loving it!

That twin should kick some ass! good luck...

Vibro King? Those rock...

My blues is decent and improving... I'm in the style of hendrix, Band of Gypsys era, and some unreleased stuff he did. I got an mp3 of "Hear my Train a' comin" thats just jimi with an acoustic guitar... Mmmmmm...

The term Blues covers so much ground that it's hard to imagine ONE "blues rig" that would fit everyone's needs. I've seen guys play great with both huge setups and sparse rigs.

I lived in Madison, WI during the 70's and early 80's and got a chance to see many of the Chicago area blues greats traveling around the circuit that exists there. You saw them play Fender Bassman and Deluxes, Marshalls, several types of solid state amps, all in a variety of conditions.

During those years Fender and Gibson guitars were by far the dominant choices, some of the older guys would have "no name" guitars.

Although we often imagine these guys were "tone kings", many of them couldn't afford expensive equipment... or didn't want it... and yet they could still "profess the blues".

I currently have a Fender HR Deluxe and a bunch of guitars including a American Deluxe Fat Strat. The strat sounds great clean with my amp, or with a few pedals thrown in for fun.

But I believe blues isn't about equipment, it's about feeling and soul. I guarantee a blues master could make you smile and weep with a piece of junk rig.

I wonder what the old blues guys think of spending a small fortune on vintage guitars, amps, and pedals... in the hope of finding the "best" blues setup?

A 90's Strat and a 98 Les Paul DC a DOD Mystic Blues, a Yamaha E1010 Analog Delay, an Oliver B200 bass head, a Mesa Boogie 1x12 cab and heavy Gibson strings, even on the Strat.

Psalm 33:3

The best instrument you have, is your heart.
