This topic came up at the studio the other night. I was playing the engineer's late 60s SG. He told be he bought it for a song, when everyone wanted oddly shaped metal guitars. And we joked that although now, retro seems to be in, it won't be long until oddly shaped metal guitars shaped like batwings and whatnot will be cool again.

So, buy the Rich if'n ya want... :D

hey - they already are. You should have seen the kids go off at the concert I saw people playing Riches at. They thought it was the best thing since sliced bread.

The original '70s B.C. Rich guitars were very cool, like the Eagle and the Mockingbird. Nice woods and radical designs gave the guitars a certain swagger when 99% of rock players used Les Pauls or Strats.

Anyone remember the original Rich Bich? 10 strings. The B-E were single strings, the E-A-D-G were as on a 12 string. 6 machines on the headstock, 4 on the body for the octave strings. I wasn't long before they kept the body shape and ditched the 4 extra strings.

IMO B.C.Rich makes outstanding guitars, which deserve much more respect than they have now. A lot of very different (and well-known) guitar players have used these guitars.

One of my guitars is a fine neck-through B.C.Rich Mockingbird (dark red) with Floyd Rose trem. Despite the fact this guitar is a budget Corean-made model, it sounds pretty good and looks great onstage, and I really like it - the gutar is perfectly crafted.

Last month one of my friends bought a US-made 10-years-old B.C.Rich guitar and let me play it - man, it was just incredible! A big, huge sound reflecting every little nuance you involved into your playing - it sounded like hell, really.

It seems strange to see recent B.C.Rich press ads using Slipknot's guitarist as a "source of authority". There is a number of well known and respected guitar players who use B.C.Rich guitars to create music, which is rather interesting, fresh and inspiring than most of Slipknot's noisy efforts IMO.

Thats easy! Most of the people who buy BC Riches are, indeed, young metalheads. That is their target audience... so off course they use slipknot - one of the most popular heavy groups around... I dont like them per se - but I do admit that you can headbang to them well - and their songs are fun to play :)

Hence why the advertising of slipknot. Theyre well known to the target audience.. thats easy :)

Dear Outrider,

Thank you for your note and the link to Chick's web site. Of course, I mean my B.C.Rich guitar is Korean-made one, with no references to Chick Corea. Sorry for my bad English ;)

Despite I'm not in jazz music so deep, I know well some of Chick's great piano works both for his acoustic and electric bands. I do prefere electric jazz and I have his concert video with Electric Band in Spain.

By the way, I look at your nick-name and remember this great "Outrider" album of Jimmy Page. Do you like this album really, or it's just a

coincidence? ;)

Regards,

Denis

I don't really like the whole bat-wing thing goin' on in the Warlock, Beast or Bich models but the Eagle, neck thru Mockingbird and Assassin models are very nice. The more expensive B.C. Riches are fairly well made and sound very nice. They're fairly versatile too... Yeah.

yeah... feelin the vibe man.. yeah.

=)

I like em. the look of em, I mean. Agreeably, the beast just looks pretty overdone, and the warlock and bich, while cool, you wouldnt get me wearing one... some of the more 'normal' ones like the virgin and assassin, and the widow in the custom shop... look cool though.

It all comes down to personal preference.

Anyone remember what happened to the Richard Conti 8-string model? Anyhow, I wouldn't mind a 7 string Warlock, Mockingbird, or Eagle myself, loaded w/ a duncan 59 neck, and a JB in the bridge. And a Wilkinson VS100/ Sperzel locking tuner combo...just as tight as a Floyd (set up correctly), and fewer maintenance hassles.

There ya go, a "Mock 7" :D:cool::thu:

I don't make a habit of busting people's spelling, but I thought it was a funny cross-reference, this being a musically-inclined board. ;)
