starlight
Hi, I'm trying to buy a guitar. I like Tuck Andress and want to play like him, I mean, in style. I remember I saw an article saying that he uses Gibson L-5 kind of thing and I can't afford that kind of money, so,, Is there any cheap guitar around 1K good for playing Tuck-style songs with? gtrmac
Cort makes some very well reviewed Jazz guitars which are not as expensive. There's also Epiphone but I wasn't knocked out by the one's I tried. I'm still dreaming of an L-5 or a Wes Montgomery model. Can't afford that this week! Mac Bowne G-Clef Acoustics Ltd. AlChuck
I just bought a Cort LCS-1 Larry Coryell signature model for just a hair over $700, and it is excellent. Plays and sounds better to me that an 80's Gibson ES-175 I once played, and better than any of the other inexpensive archtops I tried (Epiphone Joe Pass mode, for one). Christopher
Try a Yamaha AEX1500. It's a laminated jazz box that comes with an acoustic bridge pickup and preamp in addition to the traditional neck humbucker. Martin Taylor helped design that one, and his tone (and technique) are similar to Tuck's. Sells for around $1000 new, and under used. Tacoma makes a carved top jazz box (AFJ22C) that sells for $1200-1500. If you blended a mic'ed signal with the pickup output, I guess you'd sound a little like Tuck. dturner
Hello Starlight, You might check out the Washburn J-10, which I believe is their Johnny Smith signature model. I bought one via ebay for around $700 with shipping and it is a wonderful instrument. If you would like to hear me playing the J-10, go HERE and follow the links to "Shenandoah" and "I'm Old Fashioned". Both were recorded direct thru a Presonus MP-20 preamp. The graphics at my site are digital pics of the J-10 that I played with in Photoshop. I have seen J-10s go for six to eight hundred on ebay. Good Luck. Christopher
The J-10 was a great guitar. True to form, Washburn discontinued it.
starlight
Hi everyone, Thank you all. I took a note and I'll try everything that you've recommanded if available. I'll post my choice later when I buy one. And I've heard both of your songs dtune. Very sweet. Wish I could be there(Blue Note)!
