DyingGuitarGods
let's hear you play! Could you please provide us with links to your music that you have posted on the web. I think it would be great to hear all different new music; I am certain that most of you play music that is far more interesting than what is being played on the radio (I don't know if I ever listen to the radio anymore as I have heard it all, God only knows how many times over. I will start by giving you a link to some music I posted. http://www.mp3.com/TranceSpaceBlue
Fingerstyle_Jim
The first song sounds pretty polished, something happened to my connection when I tried to listen to the second one, I heard about 10 seconds of heavy-kickin' distorted guitar before it cut out. Do you have a band behind you or did you do it all yourself? I have solo fingerstyle guitar music at: http://www.mp3.com/jimgraham Jim in Canada My SoundClick Page My New Music Project
Wickerman
If I can convice my "band" to come over I'll post some mp3s of us. Meanwhile, I'm trying to put together some old school Satch-style tracks. Not meaning prog-rock, just that I'm the only one playing...

I currently listening to your playing and I am enjoying it. I love classical guitar as this was how I first started. I am planning to record some accoustic finger style and I am curious to what microphone you used? It sounds excellent!

Steve LeBlanc
Since you ask...there's some interesting music on JAMFREE Radio, there's a lot of live jams that I play guitar or keys on but there's also quite a few other artists that are really great. It's too late for computer listening here...I'll definitely check out your tunes tomorrow. http://www.youtube.com/notesleb

Fingerstyle_Jim
I used a Shure SM57, this is an old one that was used to mic my guitar amp for about 5 years when I played in rock bands. It's going through a pre-amp I made from a Craig Anderton book. The songs from "Mezcolanza" and "Stories Without Words" were recorded on analogue tape, "Dulcet Tones" was all digital, otherwise they are all the same guitar, mic and pre-amp. DyingGuitarGods
Hi Jim I think you are getting excellent results with the sm57. I have an sm57 and I just bought an audio technica condenser because I didn't think the sm57 would cut for acoustic, but abviously it could with the proper preamp and technique. I would be curious to know where you placed the microphone in relation to the guitar. How far from the hole or the bridge? Or is it close to the fretboard? Thanks
JonnyM
Some more home-recordings using a SM57. The Acoustic tracks are just that, straight into the Shure workhorse mic. The electric stuff is the SM57 close mic'd a couple inches from the amp's speaker. I used a Boss BR-8 to record and mix down to stereo. Acoustic Mood Music: JonnyM Electric Anarchy: JCM Acoustic Guitars: Collings OM-2H, Taylor 514ce, '64 Martin D-18 Electic Guitars: G&L Legacy Strat, Les Paul Deluxe Amp: Peavey Bandit No effects pedals were used, some reverb/chorus added via the BR-8 during the mixdown JonnyM alias JCM It's cooler in the shade... DyingGuitarGods
I think you have excellent vocals, too bad it's very quiet in the mix, could hardly hear it. Many people mix the vocals too low! If it's the focus it should be louder and distinct and if it's not louder it should have a different reverb setting to make it distinct and intelligible, just my opinion. I think you mixed the instrumentals beautifully.

Way too much reverb & chorus for me. I'd like to hear alot of the tunes very close to clean, your vocals too. I had the acoustic stuff on & running last night & my wife had the same thought about that. I listened to the electric side today until it got to be too much. This stuff could be a really nice set of listening music. Sorry man, that whannnnngggg song after song.... Fingerstyle_Jim
This is a great thread, I'm enjoying checking out all the music and reading the recording tech stuff. DGG: I place the mic about 8" away pointing at an angle toward the fret board near the soundhole, and I think the room makes a difference as well. The "Dulcet Tones" songs were recorded in a big, high ceiling room with a lot of natural reverb, some reverb was added later as well. The songs onthe other two CD's were recorded in a small acoustically dead room and a reverb/delay combination was added later. Dak: Thanks, glad you like my music Jim My SoundClick Page My New Music Project
DyingGuitarGods
KHAN: Sur Bigger: The guitar sounds almost like a harp in " The Gate". It sounds like a harp player called "Andreas", he plays new age music. I loved it "The Gate" that is. Is the base a synthesizer or a real base? Is that a classical guitar with an amp or without? What did you use to record it! Nice work!
Nollykin
I'm just uploading a song to a geocities account of mine. I hate geocities - but hey. they dont charge you for traffic Its called False Idols... PLEASE NOTE THE GUITAR AND OTHER INSTRUMENTS ARE COMPUTER GENERATED! They are NOT played by me This is because these tunes are what comes out of my head, and since I cant play guitar well enough yet, I cant really record them with guitar, can I False Idols but I will get there - but yeah, thats an example of what I can think up Obviously, the vocals are my own hehe I would have more songs on the net but had to take them down due to traffic probs. bugger, eh? Nolly (PS: It might not be up by the time you read this - its still uploading now. stupid geocities. Grr.) Nollykin
Ah buggerit. Yeah - Geocities sucks. and yes, I noticed the error. Here - if the geo link doesnt work, go to this other dload site. False Idols By the way - its metal - melodic metal, metal with singing. The vocals were recorded before I had taken my vocal training courses... I actually have to get around to re-recording them. I may also record some of the guitar peices. Dak Lander
'K Nolly, I got it. You do have some talent there ya know...The vocal was, to me, too quiet at the start. Farther along the volume better fit the mix so, yeah, re do the vocals & it'll be fine. Then the next step is YOU on guitar. With that style, listen to my son's stuff, Dead Zero . Let me know what you think. Our Joint "When you come slam bang up against trouble, it never looks half as bad if you face up to it." The Duke... Lee Flier
I've got quite a few tunes - both studio and live recordings - on my band's web site at http://www.what-the.com . pauldil
I'm really enjoying this thread. Some really good stuff out there, folks!!! Here's some of my original tunes. Please excuse the cheesy sequenced accompaniment, but it's all I've got to work with The backgrounds were done using Band-in-a-Box. I played all the guitar parts with a Gibson ES335 plugged directly into my PC's sound card. My Tunes
