Wickerman Posted April 16, 2002 Share Posted April 16, 2002 MOSES!!! My mom just got one as a "beater" guitar to take on trips when she doesn't want to take her Martin. WOW!!! I got home and saw the tan gigbag and said "Found one?" Then saw the Taylor name... Now, I've played Big Babies before and hadn't really liked 'em but WOW!!!!!! I've been looking for a new acoustic and haven't found anything I liked for less than $800. (Which I don't have to spend) I played her Big Baby and was blown away! It sounds better than most anything I've played in the $400-$600 range and feels great. It's small, which I'd never considered a good thing but it feels great. Then she told me how much she paid... $330 after tax w/ a thick, padded gigbag. Wow... I'm going to have to cop of her and get me a Big Baby Taylor and a good transducer pickup. What a deal! It may be that I'm not overly impressed with any of the Taylors I've played & that's the reason. I'd heard so much about what a great box they are & was dis-appointed. I've played lots of guitars I'd rather spend my money on. In fact, I don't have a guitar I'd swap for one if I couldn't play it first. I would swap one of what I have for a Tacoma or a Carvin Cobalt, among others, to give you an idea of where I'm coming from. The thousand dollar Taylors are bootleg rip-offs! I'd take a $800 Martin over the $1500 Taylors anyday but this Baby Taylor sounds better than everything but a select few under $800! (Carvin Cobalt, Fender GA-45 and Martin's 000-16, D-16 and D-1R) The thing was only $300 and all I've found that I liked better was at least $500.
