Tedster
This might seem boring or insignificant to some of you more technically advanced players than I am..but, anyway... I just learned the Allman Brothers' "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed". (Collective yawn goes up from the crowd, people looking at watches, etc.). What's so cool about this? Well, I've known it for years. Used to play it as a guitar duo...the harmony sections. Always loved the song. But, lately, other guitar players have been not around. So... I learned both parts. Well, actually, I knew both parts. But...I'm playing them at the same time now. It sounds surprisingly cool!!! Both harmony parts coming simultaneously out of the same guitar. I'm happy as a clam! Now, we'll be able to do the song three piece! But, seriously...a challenging exercise, some of you may be already familiar with. Take a known pair of harmony lines, and work 'em out together. It's a workout. But it sure sounds cool!!! Oooh...I wonder if GP would take this as a submission (HAHAHA)? rog951
I recently did the same with "And Your Bird Can Sing." It sounds so cool with both parts going that I can't believe I never learned it before. When you want it done right, you gotta do it yourself! Now I gotta learn to play both parts of "The Boys are Back in Town" at the same time...yeah, right! None more black. Rim
Hey, how about the end of "Hotel California"? I've never tried playing both parts at once but it was one of my first efforts with dubbing (on a PortaStudio) it wasn't half bad. It really wasn't that hard - to do each part separately, anyway. Congrats, Tedster! It's always cool to be able to do something you didn't before. not coaster MODERATOR
Great testimony Tedster! Some of my most productive guitar moments were doing just what you're talking about. I used to do cool two part arrangements of old Beatles and Stones songs on my nylon. So what are ya gonna do next? (Disneyland!!)
Dak Lander
Tedley, I'm a proud of ya. That's a real accomplishment & definately something to build on. Tedster
OHMIGOD!!! Cereal, go read your "Beatles" thread on Craig's forum! I mentioned "And Your Bird" and now Rog tells me he's learned it. It's a sign from God. Or maybe from St. John and St. George. That's the next one. "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"

fantasticsound
Very cool, Ted. Funny story for you and Rog. Joe Walsh, before he was more than a local player, learned to play, "And Your Bird Can Sing," for his band. The funny part... He didn't know there were two guitar parts! After that, he said in an interview, he was known as, "the guitar player who can play both parts together to, 'And Your Bird Can Sing'!" Personally, I'd say you're in very good company! It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman Soundclick fntstcsnd

Ya know, now that you mention it I think I remember reading an interview in Guitar Player (or somewhere) where Joe Walsh told this story. That's really weird because I'd totally forgotten about it and decided, out of the blue, to go try to learn it anyway. SPOOKY. None more black. Kendrix
Tedster, This is one of my favorite melodies of all time. I think my original copy of the vinyl album turned to dust from constant use in the 70's. Whenever I try out a new guitar I end up playing this piece. Im not really sure what you are doing. Are you finger picking two lines simultaneously? I'd love to try this out. Cheers, Kendrix Check out some tunes here: http://www.garageband.com/artist/KenFava
LiveMusic
Great Ted, man, I've never learned anything like that. I thought I was doing good when I learned "Blackbird" and "Yesterday." Tedster
If this doesn't print screwy, hopefully it'll get you started...
