I would practice more if...

I could leave all my guitars in stands instead of cases. It's so easy to reach over to a stand and pull one out. Opening a guitar case on the other hand is a lot of work. But...Jr Cereal wants nothing better than to attack my unwatched axes while I'm away at work so it's in the case they go.

what's your pathetic excuse?

Here's something to try. Peg board with guitar hangers. I used vertically different thickness of boards from nothing to the 4'' width side of a 2 x 4 for the center one then typical to the the other side back to nothing at the other end. Put the peg board on top of those. So the pegboard becomes horizontally curved from nothing to 4" in the center. I put it on the wall that was opposite my nearfields. It acts like a diffusor. I read to do it in one of the music magazines once. Holds 4 or 5 guitars. Hopefully by the time the kids are tall enough they know better then to mess with them. Something to think about.

I'm not sure how guitars do in the salt sea air of sunny Santa Monica, but here in schizophrenic New Jersey (bone dry in winter, tropical in summer), guitars have fewer problems when they're kept in a case. Humidifiers and A/C are also essential, but the case helps.

Keep one case close by. Have a guitar stand and a strap ready and waiting. This is just as good as having it on the stand. If you still have trouble getting started, stuff a copy of the latest Playboy in the case. :D

The Black Knight always triumphs!

Here is an approach that actually works for me... and I have three and six year old weasels and a St. Bernard running amok in my house. Don't try to protect the guitar... get a guitar that doesn't deserve protecting! From a pawn shop, guitar show or wherever, think about picking up a cheapo beater axe with a decent neck [junky Ovation... or a Peavey T60 for example] and stick it in a corner in the house. After a short time, and the newness wears off, the weasels will not even touch it... and assuming it survives the newness period, you are home free.

Works for me.

Best idea yet. I've done this too. What I need is a garage sale acoustic and electric that I can beat the snot out of and not worry about.

I have no excuses for not practicing. My music room/studio is off limits to the little ones, so the only time they have access to a guitar is when I'm wearing it. When I'm baby sitting, I usually take care of the kids and get them settled down, after some park/play time. Then I grab my guitfiddle and don't put it down, unless it's out of the way and out of reach. Have you though about String Swings? Mount them high on the walls, and your guitars become decorative as well as close by.
I really don't know what to put here.

to make sure the idea of the pawn shop guitar works even better: MAKE the kids play it for at least 15 minutes a day, every day of the week as part of their homework!!! I'm sure that it will take only about a week for you to be sure they' ll NEVER EVER want to touch a guitar again (OR they get as hooked on it as you are and the problem starts all over again *lol*)
