Just thought someone might like to see it... this is a 1993 Ibanez RG570, with a respray matt grey, internal GK2 pickup, Seymour Duncan Lil 59 (neck) and 59 Trembucker (bridge) and a Sustainiac Stealth.

Thanks, guys... so is the general opinion that it's a bit Spinal Tap? Ooops. :freak:

It is hugely flexible. The 59s, to me, sound exactly how a guitar should. I'm not knocking the Strat tone, or the Tele or LP or 335 tones, but they just sound like "guitar". Simply lovely. They;ve really lifted the whole sound; the stock V1/V2 were nice enough, but the 59s are so much clearer and smoother.

The GK2 is "just" used with a Roland VG-88, so I also have acoustic, bass, 12-string and synthy noises, and I can get a decent (if not totally accurate) Strat, Tele, LP, 335, Ricky etc. sound from there.

Finally, the Sustainiac is one of the most incredible bits of kit I've ever used. It's so natural sounding; exactly like being stood in front of an enormous cranked amp, but without the neighbour complaints and permanent hearing damage. The range of sounds available with it is huge; from just a filling out and added sustain effect to screaming feedback or silky synth-like tones. I'd used an Ebow before, but the Sustainiac is a completely different thing; it's perfectly integrated into the guitar and takes almost no extra effort to use.

Thanks again for the friendly comments... and if anyone does want one just like this, call Geoff at Machinehead in Hitchin, UK (www.machinehead.co.uk). Just as a pointer, the insurance value of this is... wait for it... £1650, or about $2300. Worth every penny to me.

Oh, one other thing; the original RG was a "factory special", kind of a "golden sample" of the production line. It plays better than any other RG I've tried, and it wasn't until I tried a Don Grosh that I believed a better guitar could be built.

Now I have to save up for a Don Grosh and have a similar job done to that, only with an RMC piezo bridge instead of the GK2. :D

Sorry!

The RGs are very good guitars for this sort of thing; not so expensive that you feel guilty having great chunks of wood hacked out, but good enough to be worth the investment.

Also, compared to the S series, there's a lot more space to fit the extras in. You can't put the GK2 PCB and the Sustainiac PCB in the same routed chamber, or you end up with horrible squealing noises.

Next up is a SimS LED neck... just as soon as I have more money than sense.

Squeeze the day!
