HAMMERS & PULLS

???

I'm finding myself becoming more and more frustrated!!

How can improve my hammer and pull-off technique?

I either lift off the string without flicking it (the pull off) ...

I either miss my desired string completely on the hammer ...

Or I flick too much on the pull off hitting the string above ...

What am I doing wrong??I understand I'll have to keep at it but are there any helpful tips anyone can give?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

Like everything else, when leaaring a new technique, you have to start off very SLOWLY and get the mechanics right, then build up speed as you get more comfortable. One of the mistakes that beginners make with this particular technique is to "bounce" off the string when doing a pull off. Your finger should not come straight up, but pull down slightly as it's comming off the string. But also keep in ming it's a very slight motion. If you pull off too far, you'll hit the next string and be out of position for the hammer, which sounds like your problem. Pull of just enough to make the note ring. Try working on the pull off all by itself, without the hammer until you get it clean, then try adding the hammmer.

Good luck!

I really don't know what to put here.

Instead of trying big jumps, just try this.

Put your index finger on the G string, 5th fret (the note "C"). Pick the note with a downstroke. Now, hammer the 6th fret of the G string with your second finger (C#). Don't pick anything anymore. Pull back off to a C. Hammer back on to a C#. Trill it...hammering and pulling rapidly. Once you feel comfy with that...use your third finger (instead of your second) to hammer on to the 7th fret (D). Pull off, hammer, etc...trill the notes.

When you get comfy with that...

Now go to the B string 5th fret (the note E) with your first finger. Now, hammer the 8th fret with your pinky. Pull off same as before. Hammer, pull off, trill...

When you get comfy with that...

Put your pinky on the 8th fret of the B string. Have your fingers lined up so your pinky is on the 8th fret, your third finger is on the seventh fret, and index is on the 5th fret...same string, all at the same time. Now, pick the B string which will be the note "G". Pull your pinky off, so you'll be pulling off to the 7th fret. Pull your third finger off to the E note you have fretted with your first finger on the 5th fret. As soon as you do that...put your third and pinky back where they were and repeat the procedure.

When you're comfy with that, go the other way, picking the note "E" on the B string 5th fret, and hammering the F# (7th fret) with your third finger and then the "G" (8th fret) with your pinky. Try pulling off to the 5th fret instead of picking it every time.

When you're comfy with that...

Put your third finger on the G string 7th fret (the note "D"). Pick the note, having your index finger on the G string 5th fret. Pull off to that note. Without picking again...hammer your third finger on the D string 7th fret.

Good luck!!!
