I know 5 Scales really well (beginner scales)

Which Include the basic following:

Major Scale

Minor "

Blues

Pentatonic Major

Pentatonic Minor

Easy! and towards the end of the day (after 5 hours of practce) I can play these scales up, down, left and right at various speeds and at different positions on the fretboard.

When I pick up guitar the next day it takes me bout half an hour to get going properly without missing the strings!

Is this something that improves with time or do I have a problem?

CHEERS IN ADVANCE!!!

It will keep coming back to you faster with practice. It might help to try using the scales in a musical way, ie, jam with them a bit, maybe over some chord changes. Pretty soon, you'll start seeing the scales in your head as you go about your day to day, and when listening to music.
I really don't know what to put here.

No you don't have a problem. In fact, you're doing quite well, IMO. I don't know if you're doing this already, but try to cover the entire fretboard. For example, if you're in A minor penatonic starting on your 5th fret, go into C major on your 8th fret. Then take it down and do some work in the second and third fret or whatever. Just make sure you cover the entire fretboard. In addition, continue to do one box scale on each fret. Start off slow and deliberate. Slow and strong. Each note counts. The speed will come. And another thing, as mentioned before, noodle some while doing your scales. Since you're practicing 5 hours(not bad at all!!!) you should be able to fit in all of these exercises. Hope this helps.
