zero interrupt
I currently own a Rivera Knucklehead 100 and play a variety of music, my main band is more of the dillenger escape plan/mr. bungle variety, so I need a wide range of tones. I play a Gibson Les Paul Double Cut with Duncan pickups. My question, I need a new amp head that can give me a really tight(not muddy in the slightest) crunch and also a sweet jazz tone(a la jim hall). The Rivera can handle the jazz tone, but it's crunch is disgustingly muddy, add any bass and it becomes undistinguishable. The only amp I've played thus far that cuts it is the Mesa Triple Rec. Advice? Thoughts? Caffiene? Thanks. Max the murdersuit is coming...
Wickerman
Carvin Legacy is pretty good. The Mesa Rect-O-Verb is great. Really good, heavy crunch with great clean and reverb. I've always had a sweet spot for Bonger but they're pretty expensive. (I'll prolly never dish out the cash, I'm cheap!) The Mesa/Boogie Nomad 55 combo (or Nomad 100 head) is my personal favorite. The little thing COOKS! You can get hard enough distortion for hardcore but it still has a clean channel that actually STAYS CLEAN at higher volumes! The Triple Rectifers I've heard break up and get a bit muddy on the clean channel at high volume. Could be the tubes or speaker but it's been that way with all of 'em I've heard. TurboDog
I've never played thru a Knucklehead, but I've heard many people talk about them. And I have played many Riveras. I can't imagine you having a hard time getting a good distortion from it. I know it's not a acid metal amp, but it should have plenty of gain. I'm assuming your on channel 1 for this. What settings are you trying, and what are you doing with the presence knob? I find with my Rivera, that the gain is kind of punchy and mid-strong, never muddy. But I don't have a Knucklehead. Myles has a lot of experience with Riveras, so maybe he can help you out.

The Knucklehead is capable of more gain than a Mesa Rectifier, and the Mesa is biased cold and has more of a grainy nature in its sound. If you want to get into a little troubleshooting, post a question in the "ask Myles" post, and when I see your post I will try to help. Regards, Myles S. zero interrupt
Thanks for the info. I actually bought the amp used, so you bring up many valid points. I plan to post a question once I have all the proper information. Thanks again. Max the murdersuit is coming...
