Guitarzan
i just got done practicing with a new band last night. i used my pod through the PA, the other guitar player used his gt6 direct as well. my guitar is a godin sd. i am using 9's and have a fairly high action, my high end is sort of distant in the mix, the low end pounds like no tomorrow. any tips on setting my pod up or maybe some setup tips for my sd would be helpfull. are there any pod users or godin sd owners who have this problem?what i need is a balanced sound , high to low. i am going to put 10's on and raise the pickups, if any one has a dark sound that benefited from a pickup swap please let me know , how about graphtech saddles? i am cool with setting my axes up, but i wonder if it is the pod? http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will
TurboDog
A lot of experienced giggers will tell you it's mids that cut thru the mix. I havent messed with a Pod in a while, and I can't remember what all you can do with it. Does it have eq? And which amp settings were you using? Changing your action won't help much, as you are only moving a millimeter closer. You may want to raise only the bottom of you pup (B and E string) and lower the top of your pup. This may even the sound a bit. But I doubt it's the guitar. I think Pod to PA isn't an ideal set up. Do you have an amp? You may want to go Pod to power amp, then mic the amp or maybe line it to mixer. (Miking is preferred). I wish I could remember the Pod set up, but apparently the brain cells that kept that info were drowned in the sea of booze long ago. Does your Godin have eq? And why are you switching to 10s? This may darken your tone more. Certainly you can get pups that will brighten your tone, but let's work on some other stuff first.
Gabriel E.
Does your rig sound good at home? If so, that's the problem. Guitar players tend to set their sound up when they are alone and then find that it gets lost when mixed with other instruments. Playing with a second guitarist will compound the problem. If I were you, I'd ease up on the low end (the bass is already there) and push the upper mids like TurboDog suggested. Basically, you want a "honking" sound. It will sound like shit by itself but will work with the band. Also, whenever you can afford it, get a real guitar amp. POD's are good for recording but they sound pretty flat - there just isn't that much harmonic complexity to the sound. Good luck. Guitarzan
thanks guys, these are good points you made. i have lots of mids, so maybe i should try a different cab setting. i was hoping for pod masters to give some insight on past experiences. the pod is only for practice and recording for now. i am basically replacing a guitar player and i have been out of the loop a little while. thanks again. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will
Rim
I really don't understand the concept of high impedence/low impedance and balanced/unbalanced connections. Here's what I know. I used to run the direct out of my ADA amp to the PA. I tried plugging a DI (Direct Input) box between the amp out and the PA and it sounds much better. I tried the same thing with my POD and my home studio and it sounded better. aka riffing Double Post music: Strip Down http://rimspeed.com http://loadedtheband.com
Guitarzan
sounds like i may need a direct box, what did the direct box do for you ?what i am looking for is a nice balance from my high notes and lows, i need more "cut" or presence, does the DI do that? http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will

Is your pod set up correctly...Maybe you should look into the speaker simul. in the pod...makes a lot of difference...I never had that problem...I have the pod pro... axis Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.>>Søren kirkegaard>
