Wickerman
Well, seeing as I'm always in Guitar Center playing their equipment (3-6 hours a week, the actually know my name!!!) and never buy anything but a Digitech RP300 and packs of strings I think I should buy a new guitar with the cash I'm getting soon. I do owe them. So, I can decide. I'm really in love with a standard Tele but also really would like a Rickenbacker 360-12 string or a Gretsch Country Classic II. The Gretsch is $1800 and would take quite a while to save for, the Ric is $1200 and I could get that in a month or two. On the other hand, I could get the Standard Tele or Nashville Deluxe Tele next week. (I'm also looking at a Fender Cyclone that I could get instead of a tele, don't yell) I was wondering if you guys had any comments or opinions on those guitars... Well, I KNOW you have opinions, you always have opinions, I just want you to share them.
Dak Lander
Wick, I know you play a lot of electrics. Take a good look at the Tele. That's going to be my next electric. As far as acoustics go. If you don't want to go with the Carvin Cobalt look real hard at the Gibson Hummingbirds. I them. The Jumbos are pretty darned good too. There is a HUGE price difference. Our Joint "When you come slam bang up against trouble, it never looks half as bad if you face up to it." The Duke...

Wickerman
As far as acoutics go I'm getting an Alverez Yairi DY40C. I love Alverez. I play every electric I see if only so I can tell the beginners on other forums high and low points. I really love the Tele and Fat Strat (also looking into a Fat Strat btw) but the others are so great too. The Gretsch is out of my price range I think. I may end up saving for a while to get it but I'm not sure. The Rickenbacker 620 solidbody is awesome as well as the Ric 360/12 hollowbody 12-string. I really like the Ric 620 ($900) and the Standard Tele. ($350) They have similar voices. The handmade Ric is obviously a little nicer than the MIM factory tele. It feels better and sounds better but the tele is a real nice insturment for only $350. I'm sorta torn between those two... The Ric 360/12 is really, REALLY cool and I need a 12-string but it's $1200 and really is only good for clean tone. I think I'll just get something with good single coils for now. My only guitar with singles is an Affinity Strat, which blows. Well, if anyone has had any experience with a Ricenbacker 620 or 360/12 or a Fender MIM Tele or Fat Strat, please speak up. Negitive or positive, please share. I'd really appreciate it.
jackpine
I picked up a Nashville Deluxe Tele about a year ago. I love it. Great tone, Tele feel, and at GC it was 300 bucks with a gigbag. You can't loose for that little green. jim www.relayerstudios.com
Boggs
Wickerman, how about a custom built Carvin AE185-12? Talk about versatility...! I know that won't help the guys at the Guitar Center, but then again, how many guitars or pieces of equipment did they sell because you demoed them? Sylver
Get the Tele! Get the Tele! The Nashville one is pretty sweet. But then again, the '69 Thinline reissue is aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawfully tempting. (That's the one I really want) I dunno, I'm a real Fender fan. I find few guitars that play like the Fenders. I guess I just like that style neck. And I'm cheap too. I just can't justify spending nearly $2000 on a guitar at this point in my life. There are so many nice instruments under $800, I can't see spending more than that. (Well, maybe for a MIA Fender) Jack I really don't know what to put here.

I played that and the other thinline. The one with a mahogany body, clear coat and two humbuckers. It was cool but the '69 thinline was amazing. I forgot about that! Okay, a Fender '69 Tele Thinline, a Rickenbacker 620 or a Fat Strat...
Gabriel E.
You can't go wrong with a tele. The MIM ones are a great deal if you find a good one. Like Epiphones, they're inconsistent. Otherwise, the MIA ones are good. Whichever you get, I strongly suggest that you get a replacement 3-saddle bridge (doesn't the standard come with 6 saddles?) and get a set of oversize brass compensated saddles from Stewart MacDonald for $12. This will make a drastic improvement in the tone. Otherwise, Rickenbackers are excellent guitars. They sound fantastic through a dirty amp (ever listen to the Jam?). I'm surprised that no one here (myself included) never mentions them - they've been making great guitars consistently for 60+ years. Gretches are cool too but I think the Ric is a better deal. All three are great insturments. PS: Thanks for the brass saddles tip.

They just play and sound so sweet. AND, if you get the Tele, you can have it sooner, right? Well, there's my choice. I WANT IT NOW! LOL ... too bad I'm sworn off buying stuff for the moment. I'll just live vicariously through Wick. Jack I really don't know what to put here.
Nollykin
Now I'm not sure from personal experience, but I have seen a fat strat played - it was very nice. The H-S-S pickup arrangements look mitey tastey But it all depends on your playing style - you're a bit of a heavier / harder player arent you wick? Go for something with a humbuck then - unless you REALLY want that 12 string. I'd say - what do you need RIGHT now, and leave the others for later - you said you hated your affinity - so sell it and find something with decent single pickups? perhaps? Or maybe you really REALLY want that 12 string. heh Its totally up to you. Write a pros and cons list - only you can decide - we can only sggest. I'd write up a pros and cons list and pick the one which makes you feel confident in buying it. From what I hear, the cheaper fenders ARE pretty inconsistent, as mentioned earlier. So try it out... but no doubt you'd be doin that anyway. heh. I jam with my friend and his hardcore band once in a while but I play mainly jazz and rock either clean or lightly overdriven. I don't crank the gain too often. I'm really leaning toward a Rickenbacker 620.
