Emperator
Has anybody any real world experience with a JCM2000 TSL122? Marshalls 100 watt combo with 2-12's. http://www.marshallamps.com/images/products/tsl/tsl122.html I was using a Marshall JCM 900 tonight with 3 different acoustic guitars tonight. 2 Ovations (Custom Legend and a Celebrity) and a Samick. I used a pick mostly and some nails. Cant say it was a pure acoustic sound. Electric acoustic yes. Just a great sound in its own right though. Definitely working cool. Still can't use just nails alone though. That always seems to still be about microphones to capture a good sound. Also I've found a blend of PodPro with microphones to record excellent. Live though is tough. So the JCM900 (long time guitar friends equipment) has the sound of my Marshall Plexi 50 watt pretty dam close. I really like its variable gain staging allows me to get the sound at different levels. Which is defintely the thing to do with acoustic guitars for this particular sound. I think they did a great job with it. So now Im thinking well whats the newest one in the EL34 / ECC83 line. Since I love the Marshall circuit so much. I saw the Marshall JCM 2000 TSL122. It has all the gain staging stuff, direct out with speaker emulation, power reduction switch, and mute output switch. Not having an output plugged into a tube head can damage them is what Ive always understood. So having that built in is definitely a good touch. But mostly Im liking the combo idea. I already know Im happy with the circuit with my Godin LGX-SA / 62 Strat main electric guitars. If I need or want I can plug in my 4-12 cab. So its looking powerful, flexible, and portable to me. I seen one in one of the online stores for $1700. I guess I need to check out some physical stores. Is that the best price? Reliability? They are already available arent they? Wickerman
Yeah, they're available. And AWESOME! My Guitar Center has one and it's the coolest little amp! It's got that classic Marshall grit but has suprisingly good clean tone for a Marshall. It also sounded a bit warmer. Not so astoundingly bright as Marshalls tend to be. It might have something to do with the speaker combo. Anyway, it's real nice. I didn't try to pick it up so I don't know about portability (Musician's Friend says it's just under 70 lbs) and haven't talked to anyone who owns one so I don't know about reliability but I know it sounds great and unique. Tedster
HAHAHAHAA...(evil laugh) neener neener neener... I've got one. I "stole" it from the Musician's Buddy scratch n' dent showroom here in KC. Had a little rip in the grillcloth. Got it for 800 bucks (they list for like 2400, and most places sell 'em new for 1600). Oh, gee, it's a swell little amp. Depending on your physical condition, they're not light...but I love the fact that Marshall put handles on the sides, so that makes 'em a lot easier to lug around. They're really not that bad. And they SCREAM. I hardly go into the extremely overdriven channel...the second one is my favorite for bluesy driven solos. I loathe you! I went into Guitar Center today and checked one out with an SG. I must say. I'm thinkin' about getting one of those little things. I hadn't played one in a month. Those are nice... They don't sound so hot when the volume is down but when you get it up to about 4-5 it's amazing. It's just awesome. Perfect, searing ryhthm tone I'm looking for in my hardcore band/jam group. (Note: Hardcore is not my mainstay, it's just fun to jam with those guys) It's a real nice little amp...
Emperator
So Tedster please tell me more. I'm like a junky with my lust for this stuff. How does the direct speaker out work ? Have you tried it on recording? That 25 watt switch? Sorry don't mean to pressure you , post as you have results:)
Tedster
Haven't tried the direct speaker out or the 25 watt switch. Did use it on recording. The result could be heard on our comp CD if it ever gets done. "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"
