Marso
In my quest for a new amp (I am getting closer and closer) I've encountered some interesting concept that I was'nt very familiar with, such as: -Negative feedback loop and Rectifiers...what exactly are those things and, what is best, having a neg. feedback loop or not? Is there always a rectifier in an amp? Is it always a tube?
signal1000
Check out this site http://www.aikenamps.com/ Under the "Tech Info" link, the Introductory and Advanced sections have tons of information. As for definitions, I'm sure someone like Myles could explain it nicely here for you.
Wickerman
A rectifier is just a power transformer. It changes AC to DC. No, not all of them are tube. Negative Feedback loops: The amp takes a portion of the amp's output and re-introduces it at to a lower stage. Usually in the preamp. Basically, you sacrifice some gain for wider bandwidth, cleaner tone and more stability.
