kudyba
SAN FRANCISCO, (Reuters) - The long, strange legal trip of the Grateful Dead guitars may finally be coming to an end. Remaining members of the legendary rock group have reached a tentative settlement with guitarmaker Douglas Irwin that will allow him to auction off two of the most famous guitars he built for late frontman Jerry Garcia -- while giving Grateful Dead Productions the right of first refusal. Anyone famliar with this guy Doug Irwin's work?

Gabriel E.
I always found it funny that Garcia used such a complex guitar rig to basically get the same sound as a Gibson SG plugged straight into a Fender Twin Reverb. D_dup3
I liked the Dead (on record, mostly ) but I always thought of it as "JG & his electric banjo"--- that is, he seldom played with a soaring sustained sound. There was something about the way those guitars were wired that gave him a true way of bypassing all his outboard gear when he wasn't using his pedals, etc.
