dondottcomm
Hi..I'm working on a new song {STP/Live type of thing}and I need a cool trippy kina thing! So I was thinking that a sitar would be "Groovy"..LOL. I remember that Brian Jones played it on the song Paint it Black.. I belive it was a "Coral" sitar to approx. the sound..I know that I would have a hard time renting one here in Orlando Fl...So my question is has anyone found a way to get close to the sound of one of those..12 string with a weird tuning maybe??may be with effects??I'm at a loss as how to do this! Thanks In advance ! Don What? you mean I can take this block of fine swiss and make a song??...COOL! Don
Kendrix
My EMU sampler gives great sitar and tamboura sounds. I beleive the disc that came with the unit had these sounds on it. Good luck Check out some tunes here: http://www.garageband.com/artist/KenFava
DougP
Both Jerry Jones (Nashville) and Fatdawg/Subway Guitars (Berkeley, CA) make reproductions of the Coral Electric Sitar. All the Fatdawg instruments I've tried have been of unbelievable quality for the price (cheap as Epiphones/Squiers, but better quality [usually good pu's and hardware], albeit not as good as the "real deal" Gibsons/American Fenders, but at 1/3 the price you can't complain about that), although their Coral Sitar repro may cost more than you'd want to spend for a one-off project. dondottcomm
Hey guys thanks for your responses !Doug..Ya I would have to use it alot of tunes to justify the purchase..I can hear my writeing partner now... Mannnn you gonna use that thing again?LOL...seriously though I will enquire about those reproductions. If they are cheap enough I may have to get one.Kendrix..The sampler/synth may be a good way to go..But it will be exposed in the mix on the top of the song.I will check it out though. Thanks guys Don This message has been edited by dondottcomm on 09-27-2001 at 08:23 PM What? you mean I can take this block of fine swiss and make a song??...COOL! DC
Good one Don! I actually do dig Orlando and all the British style pubs. Pint of Guiness please. We used to gig about an hour away for months at a time. -David http://www.garageband.com/artist/MichaelangelosMuse

I think you can get the right strings from either D'Addario or Jerry Jones.
Rick Turner
If you want real sitar strings, get in touch with the store at the Ali Akbar College in San Rafael, CA. I don't have the number, but it's in area code 415. They also have good to excellent quality Indian instruments.
