Hey everybody-

I have a little acoustic that I picked up in the Phillipines-there`s an area near Cebu where it`s a cottage industry. It was inexpensive but has a fine sound, plays great (I`d love to get that heavy paint off the top...)

Anyway, in bringing it back to the U.S. I ran into that arch nemisis, climate change, and now the strings are way the hell up off the fretboard.

The intonation is still just fine but the action is totally unacceptable.

I had been talking about doing one`s own adjustments in another thread here, but this is beyond my current skills. I assume we`re talking about

working on the nut? would the average guitar shop be okay for this kind of thing or should I be looking for some kind of luthier? any input much appreciated...

If the guitar played right when you bought it, then it sounds like you probably just need a minor neck adjustment, which is very common after major climatic changes. All you'll need to do is tighten up the truss rod a bit.
