LAPetrarca
I recently purchased a used LP copy by Galveston. I have to say, after having it setup by a local luthier, it plays and sounds sweet. I'm a bass player just learning to play 6 string so, I wanted somebody knowledgeable to check it out. I had a friend of mine who's been playing for years play it and he was impressed with it. He commented that it was well balanced and he was also able to get a pretty good LP sound out of it. I got the axe for $119 (way less than an Epiphone LP) and spent $50 on the setup. The action is great on it now and the pickups sound good. I'm considering replacing the tuners with either Schaller or Grover machines. Any preferences and/or advice? Anyone know a good source for them online? TIA!
Lisa
Many people put Grovers on Les Pauls when replacing the original tuners. In fact, some of the Gibson models did come with Grovers. I'd also suggest checking out Sperzel tuners. They lock the strings in place on the post and can help to maintain better tuning.
LAPetrarca
Thanks for the advice. As it stands now, I'm leaning towards Grovers. I've got Schaller's on all my other instruments and haven't had any problems with them. Just a yearning for something new and different.
