KHAN
I think it's acid rain seeping into our brains. Or maybe it's Nutrasweet. It could be Judge Judy. Tedster
With all his lengthy posts (we're talking LONG, son!) and his 64th notes-in-a-fast-four guitar attack, he's probably nursing a MONSTER case of carpal tunnel. Lee Flier
I think Chip is off antagonizing George's forum. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif But, to answer the question, just think about it: even if you are only of average intelligence, that means that half the population is stupider than you are. So, if your intelligence is at all above average, the chances of the next person you meet being stupider than you are are astronomically high. --Lee

Guest
I heard a saying once : The amount of intelligence on earth is a constant... and the population is increasing. I consider myself of above average intelligence, which puts Lee's comment in an interesting perspective. Scary Rod

Chip McDonald
Hello all.... I took a break earlier this evening and made a ranting post in Craig's forum I believe, but I thought I posted here "recently"? Mile: I wish that was the case, but it's much more humble than that. Gothically humble, relatively... I'm in the nascent stage of 3 projects, all of which involve corraling and recording drummer friends of mine when they're in town from what ever splendiferous "real" gig they do - and trying to make do with recording conditions more familiar to the likes of Christiane Amanpour (hmm.. ironically I reconsider that I need to take some pictures of the place where I did the drum tracks to one tune I'm working on: you *will not* believe it... it *could* be Macedonia...) than George Massenburg et al. Until sunday I haven't been able to start doing guitar tracks on anything. So - the past two days free time (as in - wake up - start/fall over - "finished for the day") playing/tracking "guitar parts" on some things. guitplayer: hopefully I'm not coming off like "why is everyone I meet stupid", I don't mean to; I've got the feeling I'm turning into the Dennis Miller of EQ.... kahn: don't tell anybody, but the recent hoof and mouth epidemic is a conspiracy to prevent the more serious threat of bovine spongiform encephalitis from becoming a reality without scarying the populace. The owls are *not* what they seem BTW. Shhhhh.....! Tedster: no carpal tunnel (knock on rosewood), but I did wear through a callous yesterday... Lee: I don't know if you've been down the road to my town, but if you have then you know that some places are statistically bound to be filled with more cogitatively challenged people than other places..... I have been told "why don't you just move back up north/out west/where ever you came from" quite a bit here - even though I've always lived here in Disgusta....? To all: I made a fairly amusing, ranting post in Craig's forum while taking a tea break earlier this evening. It's a political rant, so it didn't require my concentration to deviate from playing music for too long... http://www.mp3.com/chipmcdonald Guitar Lessons in Augusta Georgia: www.chipmcdonald.com Eccentric blog: https://chipmcdonaldblog.blogspot.com/ / "big ass windbag" - Bruce Swedien
Lee Flier
Chip, Yep, I read your rant on Craig's forum. Awesome! Truly a masterpiece. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif And yep, I've been to your town and noticed the uh, malady that you mentioned. Next week is the Augusta National, and I get to be late to work thanks to the traffic, listen to EVERYONE, EVERYONE become golf experts for the week, get to listen to NOTHING but people talking about golf in restaurants, bars, Walmart, the grocery store, everywhere GOLF GOLF GOLF GOLF. The best part about the week will be being allowed to go into the course and take pictures of it and walk around (assuming the monsoon season will have passed by next week: again, having the weather screwed up *does* cost money); the rest of the time will be having life interfered with by GOLF GOLF GOLF GOLF GOLF.... bunch of rich freaking snobs driving around like they own the town. It's quite sickening to see all of the Pretty Rich People get escorted to their limos as they exit their personal jet plane at one of the local airports... really puts your life in perspective: hundreds of personal planes lined up worth millions each. Some people have red carpets rolled up to the plane. I once even saw a little dog get carried off a plane by a chaffeur as some rich snobby family got out of their Gulfstream. Stuff like that... ahg.. As far as the intelligence of golfers are concerned.... A few years ago a drunk golfer at a bar I was playing at during Masters week yells "Brown Eyed Girl": which I will not play. Instead I decided to play Joe Satriani's "Ice 9". To my amazement, the drunk out of town-er golfer started dancing to it. The funny part though, was that he was singing out loud "Brown Eyed Girl" everytime his drunken brain thought the chorus was coming around. Tipped the band $20. I suspect something similar probably happens whenever the Republican convention happens. It seems like the only thing golfers listen to is Jimmy Buffet and Van Morrison, based on requests during that week. It's also funny to hear people from all over the planet try to speak with a southern accent, and to affect a southern dialect: people's perceptions are very much distorted into reality by the media. Golf. Yippee. Somewhere there's a rich snobby-sort in Monaco thinking "why must they have those atrociously loud Formula 1 cars race here every year! If only I could live in that quaint Augusta with it's quiet golf course"... http://www.mp3.com/chipmcdonald Guitar Lessons in Augusta Georgia: www.chipmcdonald.com Eccentric blog: https://chipmcdonaldblog.blogspot.com/ / "big ass windbag" - Bruce Swedien

Tedster
Other songs from hell include... WipeoutOld Time Rock and RollHouse of the Rising SunCocaine What's fun is to do these songs (just a little bit)...as a polka. Whenever someone asks for Stairway, we play the opening part over a polka beat and start singing in our worst Frankie Yankovic voices... "There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold and she's doing the "Stairway" polka". Or do the instrument part straight and sing the words from "Gilligan's Island" over it...it fits..sorta. "Stairway to Gilligan's Island" That usually shuts 'em up... "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"

Some friends of mine who have an original band here in town sometimes do that for an encore. It's hilarious. Bar gigs, hmph. I actually never minded most of them too much, because I refused to do all the Songs from Hell and usually found perfectly good substitutes. You don't HAVE to do 'em just because people request 'em. Gawd, I don't think I could ever do "Turn the Page", even once, without losing my cookies. --Lee This message has been edited by Lee Flier on 04-02-2001 at 01:23 PM
