remainanon Posted February 11, 2003 Posted February 11, 2003 Hey folks - Sorry about this, but I don't have time to research it... Dented bumpers and defective paintjob. Too late for Honda to honor (that's a laugh!) their warranty on the paint. So if I want the car to not look 28 years old instead of 5 years old how do I do it? Standard body shops are asking me $1000 + to tart it up, but I don't think I need to spend that, do I? JW

remainanon Posted February 12, 2003 Author Posted February 12, 2003 Well, sorry it's just so damn dumn 'n' all. Still I'm not going to bondo anything, and I'm thinking there must be a cheaper way to fix the bumpers than to get new ones and custom paint them. Which is what the official folk say. Can't you just fix the damn things? JW
The Studio Pet-Rock Posted February 12, 2003 Posted February 12, 2003 Depends... I assume they are you're talking about the "plastic cover" which hides the actual bumper itself? These are pricey to fix - if they are fixable at all. You might consider calling a few bone-yards to see if they have what you need. Gotta be a TON of those out in Ca. You might even get lucky & find a set that already matches your particular paint color. I was fortunate to locate one, correct color and all, for $50 (although my car is an '87 accord). What exactly is wrong with the paint job though?
remainanon Posted February 14, 2003 Author Posted February 14, 2003 Of course! Boneyard... Two of the body panels (roof and bonnet) formed a faded, rust-like pattern after about 4 years. Didn't really notice it- thought it was just surface/finish. Then it got a lot worse, and now you can see bare metal in places. It's a known problem with that particular color (gray) and Honda has been known to fix it, but not after 5 years. Only 2 panels have the problem - the rest of the car looks great. JW PS Thanks, now I have to find an LA body shop that will help with putting my pulled bumper back together...
