OT - Social Security Disability .... Mad as HELL rant

Recommended Posts

I have a million other things I should be doing right now, but I just had to vent. What is it with all the free loaders that milk the Social Security System dry? In a modern day setting, Social Security Disability has become a proud man's welfare. Half of the people that suck the system are every bit as capable of working as I am, and yet "OUR" tax dollars are footing their tabs. You can draw disability and ALSO have your living expenses paid for such menial things as substance addiction, obesity, and CRAP LIKE THAT........... OH... YEAH.... let's FOOT THE BILL so that these people can draw a check to support their habits, whether it's FOOD, BOOZE, or DRUGS.... so they can lay around on their LAZY ASSES and nurture their addictions at the cost of tax payers. What really hacks me off is the fact that some of these assholes live better than what a hard working taxpayer does. I just called a person that I know worked a total combined time of about 3 years that has been drawing assistance for about 5 years and to continue on. Prior to SSD, this person lived with a spouse that supported her. When I reached her call notes (an extra expense feature supplied by the telephone companies) I was just going to leave a message for her to call me........... BUT.... as I listened to the whole message, she left a reference to call her at her CELL PHONE number. Now DAMMIT, I don't even have a cell phone yet; but a portion of MY tax dollars is paying for someone else to have luxuries that I can't afford. I opted for high speed internet over having a cell phone. This VERY SAME person bought a computer system last year that cost over $4,000.00 and then purchased several HIGH DOLLAR software programs such as ADOBE' professional versions ranging in the $2,000 pricing and a 4.0 meg digital camera with all accessories. She does absolutely NOTHING for a living but WHINE about how bad off she's got it in having to live in government housing. This particular lady is drawing SSD for diabetes; yet she has a bachelors degree in graphic arts. Sorry for the topic blaster, but I'm sure other people know people like this and it really gets pretty sickening to work your ass off to get ANYTHING extra, and even if you can afford to get the extra.... can you find the time? What would happen if we ALL decided to become effortless and decide to milk the system????

Anifa! You ... You ... Conservative you! There, I've said it! Doncha' know we're s'posed to take care of the poor and underprivledged? I mean a cell phone? A $4000 computer system with Adobe software? High-speed internet? These are just the basic necesseties of life! It's just not fair that people who work are the only ones who get to have the basic necessities. It's discrimination, that's what it is! C'mon, we all know that it's big business' fault that diabetes is becoming an American epidemic. People who work have a moral obligation to give all of their money to the government to take care of the poor victims. Note: Just in case there is any suspicion otherwise, I AM being sarcastic.

"No suspicion here. I'm just surprised it took 40 minutes for someone to start posting the Party Line... " C'mon, you mean I couldn't bait you into a better post than that? Seriously though, I do not align myself with any political party. I do lean toward personal responsibility, fiscal and social conservatism, and a smaller government with less waste. I do hope that anyone who reads my sarcastic, goofy little post will not take it as an attack on those with legitimate needs. Just on the abusers, which a wide-open socialist system seems to perpetuate.

The main reason we are in this situation is b/c factory and agricultural work has dwindled in the U.S (while being moved to "third world countries"), and has been replaced by the service industry. The perverse thing about this is that the US goverment has many policies which make it financially lucrative for corporations to move their manufacturing overseas, mostly in the form of tax breaks, though their are a number of funds distributed to large corporations to spread "American Ideals" to these third world nations. Even sicker is the fact that these tax breaks and government funds for corporations actually add up to a figure much larger than what we spend on "welfare mothers" and the disabled. It's really a viscious cycle, and until people realize that it is an issue that is multifaceted, not just "one way or the other," we are never going to be able to solve it.

I'm just a hell raiser and when something doesn't suit my fancy, I'm going to raise hell. BOO!!! And Rick.... NO, I don't feel better!!! This is one of those REAL SORE subjects for me. You have SO MANY abusers milking the system and so many Government Employees that CAN'T BE FIRED because they, too, milk the system by merely showing up to work; so since the government doesn't enforce productivity within their OWN house, how can America expect the abusers of assistance programs to decrease in numbers? Gee, there are just too many abusers for the government to keep up with them; maybe they should send some of the excess baggage inside of the government offices out into the field to investigate some of the recipients of services. I totally agree with the fact that our government needs to CLEAN HOUSE! Vilo, AS FAR AS BEING A RACIST.... I'm not at all!!! But FYI, the chick I'm talking about is WHITE; so am I!!! I have no respect what-so-ever of ANY RACE that lacks motivation in maintaining their own existence. I am not implying that those in serious need of services be included in with the people that I'm am downcasting. There are truly some that need assistance. And GT3, I'm not talking about "Welfare Mothers" and "disabled" although I feel that even THEY could find a way to turn something back into society! The "Welfare Mothers" could be available for providing child care services, while watching their own, to parents in the underprivileged brackets. As far as the other that you mentioned.... YES, you are correct, but that is an entirely different SORE SUBJECT with me.

A Bachelor in Graphic Arts. A spankin' new computer (at $4K it's either a Mac or an SGI, my guess) and the latest Photoshop. Diabetes. Something tells me that, if she was any good at being a graphic artist, she could earn tenfold what she makes from SSD using her talent. Mayhaps i don't understand Diabetes as well as i could, but i don't see how diabetes can hinder her ability to do this.

Holy crap, obesity? Drug addiction? I have a feeling someone is breaking the rules. I had to see this thread for personal reasons. I'm on disability myself. I'm autistic, a thing called Asperger's Syndrome. Have a lot of trouble interacting with people- even only on the internet (I hardly see anybody IRL) I run into trouble with that. I was lucky to survive my childhood and adolescence. (I also turned to drugs and drinking, but that doesn't count as a disability and I'm clean and sober now, for a bit over ten years) As someone who knows a little about the subject (and also, who serves on a board for a Brattleboro, VT social program that uses HUD funding to place people who are both homeless and mentally ill in safe housing with professional support and counseling), I am a little surprised at the stories of people milking the hell out of the system for foolish stuff and having so MUCH MONEY. I sure as hell couldn't afford such things. I half-starve to be able to swing maybe $150 a month towards building my ability to do gainful work. Not everyone can do every kind of work, and if you don't make a good employee it's actually tougher to be selfemployed, you have to budget really well, and you have to have money to make money. Are you so sure these people aren't simply destroying their lives through credit card debt just to put up a 'look at all my money' front to piss you off? Possibly the person is actually a case of raging schizophrenia and hears voices all day long and TELLS you 'obesity' or 'drug addiction' out of shame? What makes a disability a disability is, it SUCKS. It gets in the way. I personally can twist mine around in some ways- autistic brains can sometimes make neat intuitive jumps to solve problems opaque to normal brains, there have been lots of unworldly scientists with this condition- but I want to tell you about the catch, which is that having done so you remain unable to turn such stuff into gainful employment, because you're still nuts and people sense that. You have to be normal enough to be part of the workforce, or to do sales effectively. To the best of my knowledge- and I have reason to know- drug addiction isn't a disability, legally. I seriously question whether obesity is- there are avenues people may be exploiting regarding limitations on physical functioning, but there's a difference between being Eric Cartman, and having catastrophic failures of your body's regulatory functions so that it spends all its energy EXPANDING- I have a friend, not on disability, who's had medical problems all his life and the medications screwed him up and also caused his body to become quite overweight, to where he's in frequent danger of death from heart failure from things like smog, flights of stairs, etc. I don't take meds- there are no cures for autism- but the people who take psych meds can end up seriously hosed as well if the meds backfire. There are psych meds out there which can shatter your mind for the rest of your life, and if you're nuts you can be detained and forcibly drugged, even with the type of meds that will destroy your mind. I'm sorry you're being bugged by people who at least CLAIM to be abusing the system. I'd remind you that disability isn't a joke, and it's supposed to be for a reason- it's meant to give a platform for a citizen to take SOME role in society instead of totally being thrown under the wheels. It's possible that even 'consumer' is a role in society, though I've never found that to be a good enough answer. And I think some people are either bullshitting you, or themselves. Either they're not admitting to their real, uncool disability out of shame, or they're ruining their lives through things like credit card debt just to pump their egos, or they're breaking the law just as much as if they were robbing your house. Or some combination of the above. It SOUNDS like they're getting a hell of a lot more than I ever did, but I can't envy them because I don't believe the hype. You're buying into the image these poor saps are TRYING to project. And there's no future in bullshitting.
Alcoholism and drug addiction have been declared as a MENTAL ILLNESS; both qualify as a LEGAL disability. Obesity DOES qualify, but I don't know the exact title it falls under... and believe me, I know people who ARE collecting... and IT'S ALL LEGAL!!! The extra cash comes in where back pay is involved; but seems funny that people should be entitled to back pay when other government agencies were supporting them in the first place. It's just like persons drawing SSD that are eligible to file Tax Returns and GET MONEY BACK; earned income credits. I'm sorry to sound harsh, being that you suffer from a disability yourself, but I know the health conditions of many people that work routinely who are a lot worse off than many drawing assistance programs. There are jobs that can be accommodating to disabilities; even if it's telemarketing. People do not have to be 100 percent reliant upon the system; some could benefit from partial help... but our government has made it too easy for becoming dependant on the system. Rick, Not quite sure what you meant by cloned... unless you are referencing that you share the same feelings as I. I certainly don't think that free loaders are a clone to myself; actually they are quite the opposite.
