stupid widows question

ok, so i am looking to upgrade my widows computer. hell, anything is better than the 486 i run now. god its awfull. but it does the job, it runs my lexicon editor and thats all it does. i WOULD like the ability to run MESA on it though, and the 486 can barely draw the scree let alone run the app. so i found a deal on these p2/400 w/128mb ram. pretty dirt cheap, and a definate improvement over said 486/66. but what i want to know is this; how do i check the cpu speed/type with a running widows computer? i ask because we have a lot of widows machines at work (i'm at work now) and if i could get a machine that ran as good (or close) to the one i am on now that would be fine. remember - no audio requirements. i am on what i thought was a p2/366 but i think they upgraded it without me knowing. when i restart it has a p3 splash screen, but i cannot find the cpu speed info ANYWHERE. i always thought you would go to the SYSTEM control pane and it says the info i want right there. at least the aptiva does, it says PENTIUM@166MHZ but on this machine i just get this: Shea Technologies GenuineIntel x86 family 6 Model 8 Stepping 3 127.0mb ram um, 127mb ram? WTF is that? what is this machine? its plenty fast for me to use for hardware editors which is all i want to do with it. i'll leave my 2 macs to do the real work :)

I've got a Dell at work, and the only way I can tell the speed on this machine is to look on the case where it says XPS T450. I think the other way is when you boot up and DOS loads, somewhere in there tells you what processor and what speed. I think you can pause it during the bootup to read it if it's too fast. I hope I'm giving you good information.
I'm trying to think but nuthin' happens....

Hmmm... 'widows' computer eh! After you kill yourself out of the frustration of being stuck with such a Goddamn awful slow machine, I guess your wife will be a 'computer widow'! ;)

Jeebus begs to differ, and is tired of being blamed for multiple personalities that are not his. Perhaps YOU were the culprit the entire time, making groundless accusations to protect yourself.

You can also use this free utility, Belarc Advisor , to get processor speed and other pertinent hardware and software info.

Just for future reference, and not just for you TOASTER, Belarc advisor will give you your motherboard serial number, and many other things you might need to know.
