I played the same festival as Chaka Khan once - she was on a different stage on a different day.

I've been really fortunate at jam sessions, though. I've had the opportunity to play with Stanton Moore (Galactic), Hiram Bullock, Alex Blake, most of Ray Charles' band, most of Tony Bennett's band at the time (with Clayton Cameron on drums), and Jeremy Pelt.

Not sure I can remember all of them. I gigged for a number of years with a regional group that opened for a lot of different nationals and regional bands and have done a few openers since then.

- Little Feat several times

- Colonel Bruce Hampton & The Aquarium Rescue Unit

- Robert Cray Band

- Robert Earl Keen

- Tribe Called Quest

- Vertical Horizon

- Bad Manners

I've personally played with Wynton and Delfeayo Marsalis (me and Del were actually in the same grad school program and I played with him a whole bunch), Paquito D'Rivera, Diego Urcola, Clark Terry, Joshua Redman, Ryan Zoidis (from Lettuce and the Soulive horns), Jamie Masefield (Jazz Mandolin Project), and Andy Narell.

As for my band, the list isn't too impressive, but on our third gig a year and a half ago we shared a bill with the Benevento/Russo Duo. We also shared a bill with a band led by Johnny Neel, and actually we're playing with the Codetalkers later this week.

I've worked with some studio musicians who were just amazing, but as far as famous people my list is short:

John Lee Hooker

Brad Gillis (from Night Ranger)

Two months after I left a band in California (moved from there to Michigan -- now THERE'S a culture shock for you), the band backed Carlos Santana, and they did some practicing in the guitarist's house (where we used to practice).

Oh well.
