I just like them because they were believed to be extinct, and only recently found alive. They are also hard to spell. george costanza Posted February 6, 2003 Share Posted February 6, 2003 Well, 50 years ago is recent (re: their discovery) compared to how long they've existed. There's some indication (or hope) that they might exist in various warm water environs around the world, not just in the pockets known in the Indian Ocean though they're so reclusive that discover is difficult. I think it's interesting that they can only live at depth & die at surface pressures; also that they seem to've adapted to a low-food supply environment by slowing their metabolism & speed.
