When was the last time you posted an MP3?

Recommended Posts

When was the last time you posted an MP3 to the "Is Your Music Any Good" thread? Recent threads, such as "Gear Lust/Procrastination" and Jeff's "You Say You Want A Resolution!" thread ;) got me thinking. We should all post a new MP3 - something we've never posted before - by tax day, 15 April, 2003. This will serve several purposes. - It will get us up off of our gear lust duffs. - We'll get to know each other better by sharing our art. - Discussion of new material could potentially revitalize the forum. - We'll be too busy composing, performing, and mixing to worry about grim current events or to post a bunch of OT junk. - Maybe we'll come up with something good. At the very least, we'll learn something. Deadline: April 15th. Gentlemen (and ladies), start your engines! :thu: :thu: :thu:

Sadly enough, the share my music thread doesn't get much visitors.. adimtedly, I only check other people music right after I post one... And usally I don't feel its my place to comment (eventhough I know most of us want to hear comments) Well, I will try to say a few words.

Dan should be very appreciative for the hard efforts you've put into this project.

Never. I keep planning to but have not yet been brave enough. I think someday I will. In fact, some day I am going to dowload KAZAA, compress one of my songs to MP3, tag it as an Emenem song and send it out into the fileswapping matrix. Want the little thieves be surprised when they find out their favorite punk rapper stopped rapping and started playing electronic music. Hmmm. Maybe take it as an Emenem - Moby duo. Robert

I'm in. I've never posted an original of mine before. Not that I have many to choose from - maybe 5 songs in the 20 years or so that I've been "writing songs". :p Heck, maybe I'll write a new one for this and it'll meet my quota for the next four years.

Well... I still think there needs to be a separate forum here for posting and evaluation of MP3's. The "Is Your Music Any Good" thread is just too long and cumbersome for me to really enjoy going through it - sometimes you end up wading through recent commentary on something that somebody posted months ago while new entries disappear... it just doesn't really work well. With a separate forum, each person posting an MP3 could start their own thread, with the link to the MP3 being the first post in the thread and the rest of the thread being commentary. That makes it easy to see when new stuff is posted, and easy to keep track of the commentary for each person. Come on, mp.com, pleeeze set this up for us, I know it's not hard, and I'd be happy to moderate it and delete obvious spammers and such. As for web space to host MP3's, it's increasingly pissing me off to go to places like MP3.com because all they do is make you a target for advertisers. You can't just go there and listen to somebody's music anymore without giving them personal information. Same goes with many of the other services. But hey, here's another thing you guys can do by tax day if you're serious about your music: GET YOUR OWN WEB SPACE. There's no excuse anymore not to do this, with host providers out there like these: http://www.ehostsource.com gives you 500MB of web space and 50GB bandwidth per month, for $5.75 per month. http://www.readyhosting.com (which is where my band's web site is currently hosted) - 99 bucks a year (that's $8.25 per month) gives you 500MB and unlimited bandwidth. You also get your own domain name and of course can set up your own web page. But even if you don't have time to set up a web page (most of the providers offer "quickie" options for doing this anyway), at least you can make use of the space by just uploading MP3's to it and linking to them from places like this. So quit making excuses and get yourself some space on the web! And volunteer to host other people's stuff who may not be able to afford it (as many of us here have done).

Coaster, give up details man. What mic did you use, what preamp, what converters, what virtual instruments? Are the lyrics posted anywhere? :p :D Lee, Welcome back from your brief hiatus! :thu: Also, great suggestions about a separate forum for music critiquing. I've had the same idea for a while, too.
