jeffbayson Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 Interesting question. A gesture such as this would be powerful, indeed. Its recipient would cherish your instrument - and your memory - evermore. So... I would, desiring to make such disposition of my worldly estate as I deem best, give and bequeath said favorite instrument, as property both real and personal of whatsoever kind and nature, and whosesoever situated, to my next of kin. But I guess I'm just a hopeless romantic.
Gato Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 If I were dead, that question will not longer mather ...
Sylver Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 Of I were dead, I doubt that I'd be able to give anything to anyone, as I would be dead. My wife will probably hold onto my guitars and basses until one or more of the kids shows an interest in them(hopefully musically and not just as a memento). I really don't know what to put here.
Jeff Klopmeyer Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 I will absolutely specifically bequeath my guitars, synths and studio gear to my son. No question in my mind. - Jeff Marketing Communications for MI/Pro Audio My solo music and stuff They Stole My Crayon

Franknputer Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 Before I had kids, it would have been my best friend John. Now, I think the kids are first in line...although John will still get something. :)
Dak Lander Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 As stated above, If I'm dead I can't give anything to anyone. With that said. I have already bequeathed my gear to my designated heirs with the majority of the stuff going to my musician son. linwood Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 It would go to my son and he'd do great things with all my gear. He already does. I had a friend die of cancer three years ago. In his will, he left me a mid 70's U87. The two of us worked together on a lot of projects, one of which was for Holland America. I would help him out recording and producing vocal tracks for the shows on board. I always liked this particular mic. I was so touched that while he was going through this freakin' nightmare, he thought of me. One hell of a guy. Last year I sent the mic to Stephan Paul and now this thing is just unbelievable. Thanks, Jim!! Miss you ,bro.
tnb Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 Since I believe that basses should be played, not displayed, I would leave it to a friend. Of course, if my daughter plays bass (over my dead body) she gets them.

miroslav Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 If there was no "musician heirs" in the family... ...then everything to a poor school that has interest in the arts. Someone that would actually use the gear, and not just sell it or leave it in the attic 'til it's ready for the landfill. miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important."
Dave Pierce Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 Never thought about that one! Tough one, too: I don't have kids, my wife is not a musician, and most of my musician friends don't play keys. I would say my mom, since she taught me to play she certainly deserves it. But she doesn't go in much for "them new-fangled synthesizer thingies". :D She already has an upright piano, which is all she'll ever want. Hmmm. joegerardi Posted February 6, 2003 Posted February 6, 2003 None of my kids are musicians, so I'd give it all to my youngest brother. He's in a band part time, and could really use the stuff. He's got a couple of good guitars, but really could use the keyboards. Setup: Korg Kronos 61, Roland XV-88, Korg Triton-Rack, Motif-Rack, Korg N1r, Alesis QSR, Roland M-GS64 Yamaha KX-88, KX76, Roland Super-JX, E-Mu Longboard 61, Kawai K1II, Kawai K4.

But as far as my guitars go? Well, none of my children play. All my musician friends have better gear. My wife might hold onto them in case some of the REAL young-'uns in the family show any musical interest. In my wife's family, there's a new young-'un popping out somewhere every six months! Whitefang I started out with NOTHING...and I still have most of it left!
D. Gauss Posted February 6, 2003 Posted February 6, 2003 » If you were dead, who would you give your favorite instrument to?>> well my favorite instrument used to be my penis. played it most every day. that is until i lost it in a bizarre gardening accident. so, if i were to pass away, i assume that i would somehow be reunited with a long lost "member" of my family. and since i'm sure i'm going to hell anyway, i'd bend the devil over and give "it" to him. :) -d. gauss

Dylan Posted February 6, 2003 Posted February 6, 2003 Ya know, I never thought about this until it was brought up here. I don't have any kids yet, but I did I would probably pass the instruments onto them. For know, I guess my brother who is an aspiring guitar player with get my bitches (as my wife calles them), er, guitars :D
DC Posted February 6, 2003 Posted February 6, 2003 Hmmm, I'm pretty old and have no kids (that I know about, cough cough...) and no plans to have any. And my best musical buddies are older than me. I'm not sure who will get all my toys. Have to give it some thought.  -David http://www.garageband.com/artist/MichaelangelosMuse
Boggs Posted February 6, 2003 Posted February 6, 2003 Very interesting question seeing as there are no other musicians in my family. I would probably want my wife to have my old Yamaha FG230 12-string as it is her favorite guitar and it is the first guitar I ever owned. Sentimental value. She would probably mount it on a wall. My Cobalt I might donate for use at our church for their music program, and for that matter, maybe all of the others could go that route so long as my wife could get a tax break on them. Lee Flier Posted February 6, 2003 Posted February 6, 2003 Oh gawd you're cracking me up d gauss! :D Well, since I don't plan on having any kids of my own, I'm hoping that I will meet a young player at some point who would cherish my Les Paul and really play it. If I don't, they can bury it with me. I have a friend who's had a '54 LP his whole life and has told everyone he knows that he wishes to be cremated along with his guitar. I think that would be the best thing, as nobody can picture that guitar belonging to ANYbody else and I doubt the guitar would want to!
