Going to Altlanta - Live music?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I don't usually post much and recently I've been so slammed with work to keep up with you guys but I was looking for some cool places to get to. I'm going to be down in Atlanta for a week starting Sunday night and will have some free time in the evenings to do stuff. I'm wondering where some cool clubs are that would have some great live music. I'll be at Burt Elliot Sound during the days and staying at the Holiday Inn-Midtwon, (right around where I85 and I75 meet) so anything close to there would be great. I don't mind driving a little ways either if there is something a little far away. I should probably define "great live music". I'm looking for any really good local bands that are just killer players and have good music. Style doesn't matter. I enjoy all kinds. Any ideas?? I'm sure some nights are better than others. Thanks, Chris

Here's a good one... Some good friends of mine are playing at Jake's Roadhouse this Sunday evening Feb 9th...in Atlanta/Decatur area... Showtime is either 9 or 10PM... can't remember off hand... It will be broadcast live on the Z93 Dunham's Radio Show, so check them out on the radio and if you like what you hear, haul ass over to Jake's... You can check out their web site and probably some of their music at http://www.tishamingo.com "any really good local bands that are just killer players and have good music. " I can guarantee that is exactly what you will find this Sunday at Jakes!!! :thu:

Dude, you rock!!!! Thanks a million. I plan on arriving in Atlanta around 4:00ish, so that would be perfect. I don't have to be at the studio till 10:00am on Monday. Again, I appreciate the info. Chris

I just checked out their site and they have a coupla tracks from their new album up there. Check out track 5 "Way Back Home"... it's got one of the tastiest guitar solos I've heard on tape (actually hard disk ;) ) Of course sound wise, they purposely dumbed it down pretty well in the MP3 format... that's John Keene of Widespread/REM etc fame playing the pedal steel on that track... if you like them enough to get their CD, you can hear me playin' harp on "Little Red"...

Chris, I'd recommend checking out the 10 High Club, the Echo Lounge, or the Star Bar. I'll check the listings for ya and see if anybody I can recommend is playing. You're welcome to PM or email me if you'd like to try to hook up while you're here. Sorry my band doesn't have a gig this weekend! :)
