I will be playing a show in Vero Beach and some maybe doing some work in Orlando at the end of February through March. I am also thinking of relocating to the Orlando area. Is there a scene, jazz jam, blues jam, or a place where to meet some of the players? I play bass.

Er, I used to live in that area and I'm afraid I can't say much nice about it. You could try to see if Sam Rivers is still performing with his Big Band in Orlando, he is truly amazing.

Well, Orlando has kind of a weird scene. There are a lot of jobs, what with all of the theme parks, restaurants, and bars... but it's all "Disneyfied." You have to really be a "jukebox" type of band. In St.Pete, Tampa, and even Clearwater, there is a blues scene of sorts, but really really good players are tough to find. A lot of middle of the road guys. There is something calle dthe Tampa Bay Blues Society, that has a lot of members all around Florida- I would look up the website... perhaps even call up the directors to get a little better idea of what's going on in Orlando. I could hook you up with some Tampa area guys... if your good!

Thanks guys, I have already been in touch with the musicians union and I did a Disney audition a few months ago. I am just trying to get more of a headstart since I am sure that there are more places to gig besides the theme parks. I hadn't considered looking in the Tampa area. One of the main reasons for wanting to leave Providence is my trying to stop the 1 and 2 hour drives home after the gig.

Being from Tampa, I have to agree with GT3 on this one. You have to look very hard for the really good musicians around here.
