Independent Radio Statios??

There is a station near my home in San Diego here, which advertises things that directly insult clear channel and the huge crap infested corporation it is.... Here is their slogan "we know your not an idiot, so we won't treat like one, FM 94.9; It's about the music". The station makes all sorts of claims about how industry treats you like morons and FM 94.9 doesn't, but focuses on the music. The station is great and they will answer any requests no matter how "non-mainstream" the song may be. They support San Diego's great local scene and will even play songs on a CD that were never released as singles.... We need more stations like this, clear channel owns 1 out of every 10 radio stations in the united states and to make things worse are merging with AMFM to create an even larger monopoly.... SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL INDEPENDENT RADIO STATIONS!!!!!! Matt

I guess its high time to pay attention to who advertises on such stations, and make sure to support those folks, too. :thu:

AMEN!!! CMSU-Affiliated public 90.9 The Bridge here in KC...as well as 90.1 KKFI. Both, however, have more than their fair share of talk programming, NPR News, which is cool, but when I want to hear music, I want to hear MUSIC.

Here is a link to the CEO of Clear Channels' testimony before congress today. http://commerce.senate.gov/~commerce/press/03/mays013003.pdf just make sure you have on your hip-waders so you can get through all the bullshit. ;)

A quote from his testimony. "Standardized play lists just don’t exist at Clear Channel." right, obviously he never listens to his own stations.

That is just lame. The radio is in a sad state and it is because of Clear Channel Communications and everyone and their brother know it. So keep on pushing and supporting the indepenent radio stations in hopes that we can at least place our vote, like a needle in a hay stack... The fact that he mentioned that Clearchannels concert and radio industries HELP the artist is just horrible discusting bullshit. I even remember viewing a newspaper article that stated the artists were paying the price more than anyone. CD sales and concert revenue are all on a downer... What the hell is that guy thinking? Clearchannel just bought a large building in London, looks like those fuckers are coming over here too. Time to look for another job, methinks

If you're ever in the SouthEast see if you can pick up WNCW . One of the cool things they do is to broadcast artist playing live while at the same time recording them, just like they used to. I'd like to check out their studio because it sounds really good.

Please support these independent stations. Do not allow clear channel to ruin the radio like it did here. We have 17 stations in this area owned by clear channel and the rest are Viacom. there is no radio worth listening to in my area and it royally sucks.

Reach out and grab a clue.

Amen, dude! I remember being in San Diego a couple of years ago (we flew home the day before 9/11)...anyway, the music there was so great!!! I wanted to move there just for the tunage.... But, meanwhile, I'm stranded in Iowa - - There are some awesome independent stations around here, mostly college-based. Here's a few decent ones that do webcasting: Jazz always + blues on weekends: http://www.kcck.org/ Classical: http://www.augustana.edu/wvik/ generic PBR (daytime), with great independent & alternative music at night: http://kuniradio.org/Default.htm KUNI has always been open to playing CDs sent in from the local area.

philbo-Tangent I first moved to San Diego - just on the premise of the radio stations --in '73 San Diego was voted "Best Underground" in the US-- {{{{actually the music was so bad in Indiana >>>that our local college station BALL STATE 1971 >> would play reel to reels, of taped air shows from LA/San Diego.}}}} Eventually the stations in San Diego sold-out and I moved North to follow quality stations. cjogo http://fp2k.redshift.com/cjogo/crystalrecording.htm
